A couple of buddies and I just bought some hoop nets for something else to do...like we need more outdoor hobbies. I was curious what some of you guys that run nets use for bait. We are hoping to target catfish, but carp and buffalo are always welcome in our nets as well. I am going to try some cottonseed cubes or some other soured grain product. Where in Central Illinois can a guy get cheese trimmings without ordering or driving up a ton of gas? Is there anyone in Cheese Land to the north that sells trimmings or bad/old cheese?

We use Cheese, or Chicken blood/entrails.

Heres what you do: give up the fishing hobbies.
Go to the nearest super store, you and your friends each buy an economy size box of condoms.
Then each put 50 bucks in a hat, first one to use all the condoms legitimately on women gets all the money in the hat.
Believe me, you will have more fun with this hobby, and hell if you're extremely lucky you'll even make a couple hundred bucks while doing it.
Just make sure and tell them, double bagging it doesn't count. :D

That really helps! :x
Judging by the number of posts that calling4life has on the forum and his sexually frustrated avatar...I would say that he is the one that needs to give up the hobbies and go looking for a little trim!
Thanks Long Grove Labs for the legit info! Any further helpful information is welcome. Save all the bull**** for some other thread! :D

Soured soy beans... But we catch them on fly rods instead of nets.

Thats not BS thats advice. I will say the same thing to anyone about fishing, I dislike fishing, plus fishing gets in the way of my hunting. However the activities previously described are late night activities not in danger or screwing up my hunting.
I have been killing carp for 17 years, don't believe in netting, always bow fished myself. When I baited I always made up a time release system, plastic ziplock, teeny hole and bait inside from corn, cheese, to teryake sauced steak.
Reason I do timed release is because you go into an area, generally scaring the fish, drop the bags down, leave, come back a little later and shoot the area. Works great
Killed thousands of carp, bullheads, probably only about a hundred buffalo in my days. But I am on some prime ground.
And I could always use more tail, so send them my way.

Let one get pregnant, tell me if your theory still stands.

We use cottonseed meal for baiting our hoop nets for catfish and buffalo cheese works great later in the fall for catfish

Dropped the nets in last night. Finally got to run the new 1856 and the 40 hp Mud Buddy. Baited nets with cottonseed cattle cubes. Got to spend some time on the river and do some 12 oz. curls. Life was good!!!! We'll see what happens.
