I am thinking about getting a new duck call,I have a straight meat goose cal,and love it have shot a ton of geese with it,are the straight meat mallard calls as good????and what about the timber rattler calls I have not heard one of those, also not sure about single reeds or double,I like alot of rasp as well as volume, but need to tone it down if hunting flooded timber. Thanks........goosehunter03

Goosehunter03, I have a Strait Meat Mallard and have had it for about 3 years. I love it, but I do want to get a double reed Timber Rattler. My buddy just got one and it sounds awesome. It's a diamondwood mouthpiece with a black insert. They have another one at the Sportsman's Warehouse in des moines. I think I might go pick it up in a dayy or two, but I want a tundra saver for snows this spring too. I would say if you want alot of rasp and not alot of loundness for timber, I would definately go for the Double reed timber rattler. I dont really like the sound of my buddy's tr single reed.

Timber Rattler DR for flooded timber and a SMM for Open Water. I have a SMM and it is LOUD! I am getting a Timber Rattler for some smaller marshes and smaller waters. I am with Killer Miller, King Killa's new Timber Rattler sounds and looks awsome.

i have a single reed SMM and it brings the ducks in!! it is real easy to blow too. if u want to hear that call go to the home page and select call color gallery and then at the top of that it says click to hear SMM single or sumthin like that.

From the sounds of what you desribed above.....I would say you need to get yourself a Timber Rattler - in a single or double reed. Both have enough volume for almost any situation and both are raspy as hell.....JUST PLAIN DUCKY on the low end!!! The TR double reeds are sweet!!! I have a TR in all hedge (single) and that call just flat out fools ducks!!! It has plenty of volume, a fantastic low end and feed chuckle, and you get down right nasty with the low volume flooded timber calling. Check'em out....you won't regret it!!!
The SMM is also a great call...either call would suit you, but to me, it sounds like the TR will do you right!!!
I'll tell ya what....give Mark Carey a call at the shop (1-866-83-GEESE toll free) and tell him what you are looking for, he will hook you up!!!!
