Just wondered what everybody is feeding? I have used Purina a long time, regular and Pro Plan. When we got these Hawk puppies from Ron he said he was feeding Diamond dog food, I read where Diamond had some problems a while back, but the puppies will eat it , a lot better than the pro plan, so i guess we are going back to the Diamond. Dosen't seem to be a lot of difference in nutrients and so forth. But the puppies like it better, Just wondered what everyone else is feeding.

i got one of the hawk pups from dennis taylor and he was feedin it puppy chow but my vet sugested switchin to just about any kind of puppy food as long as it was for large breeds. its supposed to help with the joint problems and help them develop better and will also cut down on the landmines in the back yard or in the pen. i switched my pup to iams smart puppy large breed.

With our Lab, not from Hawk :? , we fed her Purina large breed puppy food. As we did with her litter of nine. The stud and bitch were all hip cert and AKC. We just found out that one of the puppies has hip dysplacia. Now we're trying to find out where that came from, stud or bitch. Neither have any hip troubles, and they are 4 and 5.
Just thought I'd throw that in there.

I feed my dog mainly Diamond, I get it at Tractor Supply for pretty cheap. My trainer told me it was the cheapest good food, it was what he used (10-15 dogs a day). My dog really seems to love it, I tried a few other brands but he doesn't like them as well. During season or when we're working the dog alot, I use Diamond Hi-Energy, Other wise I'll use the normal, they also have a weight maintenance formula if you have a overweight dog.

Back when I was in the German Shepherd game, (pure breed German imports) I fed my dogs diamond with out any problems, I read about the recent problems they have had, but it is my umderstanding that they tracked down and corrected the problem and took steps to insure that it wouldn't happen again. I liked diamond myself, great product for the price.
I am currently feeding my Hawk Pup Iams Smart Puppy for LArge Breeds as well, and he really likes it, and has done well on it.

hey gary i been using Pro Plan dog food. its more expensive but you dont have to feed your dog that much to keep a good weight on him and when season comes they can burn fat off fast.

I feed my dogs Purina Pro Plan Performance as adults and Pro Plan puppy formula for large breeds. Never had a problem with pups eating Purina but my labs never had a problem eating much of anything. My oldest lab now will be 2 in November and she is built. About a hundred pounds but she looks like all muscle and she will swim for hours. Will also give our labs a cup of Bil-Jac a day. It was my girls idea, I think it gives them a shiny coat.

I am feeding Diamond Lamb and Rice because my dog is allergic to the chicken protien that's in most dog foods, he loves the stuff and for whatever reason the lamb & rice seems to help with his coat.

I have for 18 years fed my dogs Purina products..they are a long time supporter of the dog organization that I'm involved with....NAVHDA...
the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association...I used to do training seminars for them also...from spending time with associates of Purina and they're staff it is AMAZING the amount of time, money and effort they put into their product...They want it to be the best ALWAYS...
They spend millions of dollars each year on research and trying to find ways to make their product better for all types of critters....not to mention that they support "hunting activities" such as sporting dog clubs, field trials and all sorts of other outdoor related activities....while other dog food companies openly DO NOT support hunting or such activities....another reason to use Purina's fine products...
hey, we're all out to save a buck when we can...but I don't think short cutting a quality dog food is the way to do it....just my .02
its the same old story.....quality doesn't cost..........it pays...

by the way i feel both purina and iams are good foods. just don't go cheap when it comes to dog food. kinda like you eating a bag of chips and a box of maccaroni and cheese everyday and asking you to go do something physical all day long ( like running a marathon ) . see how far you get. just my thought.

Thanks for the tips, As far as price goes it isn't really an issue, i always fed purina , but if you set 2 bowls down day to day one with Diamond and one with the purina pro plan, they will eat the diamond like crazy and not touch the pro plan, I'm not saying the diamond is a better food, it dosen't matter to me what the name is as long as the pups are getting what they need. I personally am more a believer in the purina, because i have always had good results with it , I was just wondering what everyone else was feeding ,thanks again..

If you guys can find Black Gold dog food in your area I would highly recommend it. $21 for 50lbs and very high quality food. It's about all anyone out here uses anymore. The Pro-Trainers swear by it and it made amazing differences in every dog I have got on it. If you find a distributor you can buy it by the pallet for really cheap. We just get a bunch of guys to go in on it. There 4 different formulas based on calories and protien, I feed the black in the summer and red in the winter. The red bag food is VERY hot.

You bet, you'll never feed anything else after you use it. Especially when you clean kennels...nothing beats little rock hard turds out of a 95 pound lab.

I was feeding "Scout" (3 yoa, 92 lbs) Diamond for a while; liked the protein content, but I wanted something which also had tartar-control capability. I'm now feeding him Eukanuba, Premium Performance, Large Breed. It's definitely pricey, almost a dollar per pound, but feeding him this stuff makes me feel like I'm putting rocket fuel into a race car and he looks absolutely fantastic. However, many of you have made me curious about Purina so I'll be looking into that one, especially if I can get the same nutritional value for less money.
Since it will now cost all of us more money, in gas, to get to our blinds this season, saving money on dog food could compensate a little.

My bad. Just got off the Diamond website and, it seems, it now has tartar-control capability. 30% protein, that's great. Eukanuba and Diamond seem to have the highest protein formulas available. The best Purina formula has 26% protein. The best Iams has 26%.
Anyone who takes fitness seriously knows that protein intake is very important. That being said, my vote is between Diamond and Eukanuba.

Black Gold Red bag list minimum 30% protien.
Gotta look at the protien source as well....not all protien is the same.
