I have a little Problem that I though maybe someone could help me out with . I found two pasture fields that are side by side both are fenced in all the way around. The geese are really using them both , and there are a lot of them. I stopped and asked two people who owns the land and they didn't know . I found a sign on one of the gates that had a phone number on it so I called it and the guy that answered told me that he didn't own the land he just took care of it , he told me the landowners name and that it would be alright to hunt their , he told me he didn't know the guys phone number. I still would like to ask the land owner for permission . But don't know how to get his number. The guys I asked first told me he lived somewhere else. If any of you know how I might be able to find out the guys phone number let me know . I tried yahoo people search but no luck.

Call your local land bank. they should have that information.

go to the town/county accessors office, they will tell you who owns the land.

Always keep a plat map in your truck. It is a valuable asset

the accessors office is the place to go. They should be able to hook you up with the info you need, such as an address. It always seems better to me anyway to ask for permission face to face.

I deal w/this situation alot in TX. Other people rent/take care of peoples places. If you get permission to hunt from this person, i would hunt it, might be wise to stay in touch w/your contact until you actually do hunt, that way you avoid a uncomfortable situation.

If the guy you talked with has authority to tell you, that you can hunt it, get it in writing from him and hunt it. If you ever come across the owner, you can tell him and show him that you received permission from the guy. Especially if his # was posted on the property. We deal with alot of farmers around here, alot of them lease the property, the actual landowners sometimes don't even live around, so the farmer that leases the land has authority to oversee the use of the land. Good luck, it sounds like you're good to go.

At your county offices, usually the water and soil conservation office, but just call the county offices and someone can direct you I'm sure. Usually anywhere from $15-$25 per county, definitely a valuable asset! Locate birds, find out who owns it with plat map and find there # and ask permission, and if you can't get the exact field you want, maybe you can get permission to adjoining fields and run traffic.
