Just wondering if any of you guys use fiber optic shot gun sights . I bought one last year and it is a little higher than the bead Is that normal. If you do have one what kind is it .

I used to use one, Tru-Glo Hi Viz, green, but it's too bulky and messes with me watching the bird. To shoot well you need to watch the bird and swing the gun on it, not look at the sight and try and aim it on the bird, you'll become a much better shooter when shooting more instinctively like this, the gun almost is just in your peripheal vision. If your gun is fit to you, cast, etc. it will swing with you as you look and move. Those sights are great for turkey hunting, where you draw a bead and shoot.

Couldn't have said it any better than that.

I use a Hi Viz sight i can't remember the exact model but it comes with 3 or 4 different sights that insert into a tube, one of the sights is round i use waterfowl hunting, and the others are in like a triangle bead that i use for turkey hunting along with a back sight. I like the different heights on the triangle ones mostly for turkey hunting, shooting extra tight patterns if your gun is shooting high you can insert one of the sights that is taller which will make your gun shoot lower . I really like the fiber optic sights but more for turkey hunting, than waterfowl hunting.

I guess to answer your question, i don't know if it is normal for one to be all that much higher than your sight, but the taller the sight is the lower it will make your gun shoot.

I generally use the sights that come stock on the gun, with my Browning it is a simple beed with my Benelli's it is a small red fiber optic bead. I used to have a Mossberg 835 with full fiber optic sights on it (3 dot turkey) first time goose hunting I pulled the rear sights off, and just used thefront, and still found it very distracting. I think they are nice in some situations, turkey hunting orlow light, but otherwise I would prefer simple beeds for ducks and geese.

I think honestly that if I wasn't looking for the sight I wouldn't miss it if it were gone. When I shoot a shot gun I never see the end of the barrel. If your gun fits you properly it should pull up the same every time. The only reason you would need a sight is if your gun did not fit then you could use the sight as a reference to see if your gun shoulded right. Just my opinion. Brad

No bead at all on my guns. I take the factory beads off.
