Sorry for posting in two different threads but I really would like some more imput!!!!
Well I already have a SMH in cocobola wood and am looking to get a new call in acrylic. I have been browsing other questions from others on this site and have kinda narrowed it down to the HPH and a Showtime. I am still kinda new at calling but starting to sound pretty good, well good enough for geese to like my "noises" Anywho I am looking for a call that can reach out and touch those shy birds but still have a good low end. Any input would be great!
Thanks,
-Brian-
Being somewhat new to calling...personally I'd go with the HPH, slightly louder than the SMH you have now buts gets low down goosie and has a great feeding murmur! Plus it blows as easy as your SMH. The Showtime is a contest style call and it might be a little transition for you over the HPH.
Hope this helps in your decision.

I will have to disagree with them on this. The showtime blows very similar to the SMH. If you want loud this is the call to have, if you want to get some low tones this is the call to have. The showtime is an all around great call!
Get a showtime insert and add it to your SMH wood barrel....that would be an incredible combination. I recently added a showtime insert to my SMH and it is by far the best combo I have blown, just down right goosey and fast. I do love my HPH, it seems to have a greater range of tones than the SMH/Showtime combo.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with the High Plains Honker, I would say it is still my #1 choice if I could only take 1 call to the field. Buy the HPH, then buy a showtime, then you can swap your showtime insert to your SMH for the heck of it! :D

In a hunting situation, the low end is overrated. Just my opinion. A cackler tuned to a deeper tone will give you speed and a low end to boot. The HPH is a good fast call that will hit a wide range of tones, yet the length of the insert is somewhat "finicky" on hand placement. Again, just what I've found true for me.
A second SMH in acrylic would be a good place to start; seeing as you are familiar with this call already. Another option as BIGR stated, would be a comp insert in a SMH.

As in my other thread, someone stated something about a cackler barrel with a short comp insert? Anybody know anything about this combo?

I don't have the short insert, but I did buy a Showtime insert and put it in my Cackler. More bang for your buck I think than a SMH barrell, meaning more notes out vs. the air you put in, faster, and a little easier to control. Good high crack, but with good guts especially will get very low and raspy. Makes a great call.

HPH for sure before the showtime. You will find it to be a great transition..
