I was out on a hunt two weeks ago , and it was very cold out. I have a SMH , HPH, MG , and a Straitmeat Mallard. My SMH , and HPH calls kept freezing up , the MG < and SM worked fine. Killed my limit but was just wondering if anyone could tell me way the SMH,and the HPH froze , and the other ones didn't. Also if any one has any tips on keeping your calls from freeing up let me know I'll give any thing a try. Thanks

My double reed legend will do this from time to time i just turn it around and blow into the back of it everynow and then to keep it thawed out.

blow through the end of it or put your calls inside of your coat

i think most calls will freeze up in really cold weather. i also will blow warm air through my call to get it thawed out just before i use it.

You are breathing moisture into your call every time you blow it. When it's cold, then it will freeze up on you. Just blow into it two to three time and the reed will thaw and it will work just fine again.

I also recommend blowing into the back end to blow some of the extra moisture out, and dropping them inide of your coat, or between your waders and body.

Keep ur calls warm and out of the of the wind. And like the other guys are sayin put them in your waders or jacket.

I would guess the reason why only those 2 forze up and the others didnt because you were blowing them more. There was probably more moisture in the calls that froze up. I agree with the guys that said tuck your calls into your coat. I know its a pain to get to them but it will work. If you wanted you could rotate the callsin and out of your coat so that one is accesible at all times.

I know it's a pain in the ass...but if you're like me you spit a lot in your call. Do what we do when we're at competitions.....keep a dollar bill handy and use that dollar bill to remove moisture between reeds or between your reed and tone board. It works like a charm, plus it gives you something to do between birds!
