The guy that I sell my furs to said that he thought coons were going to be worth more this season. He was paying $15 - $18 on the carcass last season :)

I have a question also if you don't mind.

Can you sell coons and coyotes whole, or do you have to skin them and all that jazz for these people that buy them???

I have plenty I could whack, but I don't want them going to waste, and I don't have the knowhow, or time to skin them all out.

I would rather just killem throwem in the back of the truck and take them somewhere.

most places will buy them as u bring them in {fur on animal } alot of times u'll bring more money if it is put up the way the buyers are looking for {skinned & streched } it would be nice to get some money out of things this year. i know the last few years prices have gone up and that was nice except that it brought the fair weather trappers back into the sport . that created pressure for places to trap , and about everywhere i trapped i had someone else there trapping also. the other nice thing is after season it will be nice to break even do to the price of gas and such

In my part of the country there are not a lot of fur buyers. Most won't pay much more if any for a finished hide. So unless a person does it for the satisfaction of doing it or plan on taking or shipping them to an auction it isn't worth the trouble. One problem with not skinning them is they take up a lot of freezer space if the weather is very warm and you can't get to a buyer in a timely manner.

i do it most part for the satisfaction of doing . plus my kids love to dry and hand me the rats , as well as go along to check them. the thing i saw said that when the main buyers went n there inventory they mis calculated what they had and coons were gonna be the most profitable. around me it is all dumpster coons with a xx-large average and bigger. last year i didn't trap much do to not haveing the money to travel the line but 2 years aga i had a $20.00 average on them . {skinned , fletched ,hung } i would say to sell them early cause prices will probably fall after the first big push of fur, even though the heavier pelts late should bring more money. we have had an otter season here the last few years do to the state stocking programs , and they bring the most money for us. out west u guys get a good penny for bobcats don't u? also ur coons are heavier {thicker fur } so they should bring even more out there.good luck to all that will trap this year ,and after the first sale i'll post some prices that i got.

We ship all of ours to Hudson Bay Fur Company. This means stretched and dried but the money seems to return fair for the effort. I have seen them hit 40 a few times but they better be darn nice. I enjoy standing out in the trapping shed with dad and fleshing anyway. Anymore the only reason we send coons is because we are shipping a bunch of beaver and the money difference is nice on those when they are dried and sent.

What I have read it sounds like they sold out all of last years. And the Euro is high and the europeans are buying fur again along with the chinese. However I have heard this rumor of 30.oo hides but they are rare and it better be a big jumbo with a very heavy coat. But on a good note 18.00-20.00 still isnt a bad price. Unless you have to drive alot to run a trap line. Like anything else it is how hard do you want to work. If anything the more coon you trap the ducks you can shoot.
