I am planning on buying a new Foiles duck call and wanted some opinions.
I am torn as to which one to buy. Im thinking either the Dead Meat Mallard, Straight Meat Mallard, or the Timber Rattler. I hunt all different areas like rivers, small lakes, and I just got a sub-lease for Goose and Ducks in Northern Colorado and the guy I leased it from said the early season field duck hunting is insane. I am looking for a call that will accomidate all those hunting styles. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have the DMM (DR). Very good call from the low end to the high end. Very ducky call. I'm not taking anything away from the others by any means. I only have experience with the DMM.
All the calls are great duck calls. There isn't any of them can't do.

Do you think that the DM will work for all the differnt situations. I have blown all three of them and I just cant make up my mind of which one I like best. Thanks for your input. Any others that have use the others

I have all 3 calls a SMM (SR), DMM (DR), and TR (DR). For what you aredescribing I think the DMM would suit you best. It is a Hybrid and falls perfectly between the SMM and TR. It will get plenty loud and down and dirty on the low end. It hasbecomemy favorite duck call. All three will are great calls, but the DMM is the "do it all" call of the bunch. Hope this helps, good luck choosing, or why settle just buy one of each

The dead meat is an awesome call, but honestly, any of those calls in a single reed will get it done. If you're looking double reed, I would say DMM or SMM because you can get a little louder then on a TR. All have great lower ends as well. Hope this helps.

So you do suggest getting a single reed over the double reed

Honest opinion...and I am sure some will disagree...I think the DMM in a double reed is the nastiest, duckiest call Jeff has come up with and is perfect for just about every hunting situation. The only time I use a single reed...well, never. If we hunted a lot of open water where I needed to get crazy loud or if we hunted a lot of refuges where I needed to call birds away from guys (volume again), I would use a SMM single reed...but for what you are looking to do, I would say the DMM in a double (tuned a bit stiff so you can get on it) is EXACTLY what the duck doctor is ordering!!!!

I couldn't agree more. I will allways have my SMM (SR) with me since I do hunt some refuge areas, but my DMM will probably get the most use this season.

Another vote for the DMM here! I have one in a double reed, and it will see 90% of the hunting I do this coming season. Extremely ducky and great on the low end and also can get loud enough with it for most situations, I'll also carry my SMM single reed for when I need to get real loud, it's alittle tougher on the low end (as far as getting real mellow). TR is a great call also, but I think if I was only to have one call it would be the DMM. As far as single reed vs. double reed, I think it is going to come down to your own preference, and how much experience and how capable you are with a single reed, definitely a different animal than a double. For just a straight hunting situation, I like just a double reed, it's idiot proof and simple to call, especially in those tough conditions. Good Luck, like the others said I don't think you can go wrong with any of the calls.

DMM in a double is awesome..you can get good and loud on a stiff tune job. I just like single reeds on open water situations and really windy days. I would say i'm 60/40 double use to single use.

I have yet to blow a Dead Meat so I would say go with the single reed Strait Meat Mallard. Afterall, it is the originator. I have a double reed Timber Rattler and it is the duckiest call I have ever heard. It came to me tuned perfect, I hope the reeds never need replaced (yeah right!!). But for open water, you need more volume. The SMM also has a good low end too.
