Here in about 2-3 weeks I will be purchasing a new truck. I know I shouldn't buy a truck because of gas prices, but do to my job I pull huge trailers for our catering business. Anyways. I do like the Fords when it comes to pulling trialers.

Ford I am looking at. 2007-2008 Ford F-250.

Chevy I am looking at 2007-2008 2500 HD Silverado Crew Cab

Might buy a trailer off my mother to use for my decoys in the future.

The chevy is the Allison Tranny Duramax Diesil, will automatic starter.

The Ford is a gas truck. If I get the chevy I will be getting bigger tires.

im a chevy man, but for anything bigger than a half ton, i would buy a ford.

They superduty's are amazing trucks, and just last longer if you take care of em (anything will do that)

but especially if you get a powerstroke, (if you get a new 6.4 powerstroke keep it stock they like to give problems)

yup....

I've been up and down I-35 from TX to MN many times. I always see the Fords pulling trailers. They're {trailers} the over cab car haulers with at least 3 vehicles on 'em.
I also had a neighbor with a powerstroker who trailerd his race car across I-35 who said you can't even tell it's on the truck. It's a 33 footer.

I had a 2001 F250 gasser and the tranny's 2nd gear went out in 06. I pulled a 16 foot landscape trailer. which is a heavy steel, angle iron sum-buck, with 4 foot sides, a cage with top hinge and 2 side doors, mesh walls, a ramp and wood floor. At her prime she was pulling that trailer loaded to the gills with green wood. the tires were 17 ply and the weight was 16 to 20 thousand pounds. I pulled that load 4 times a season and the rest of the year was landscape and maintenance equipment. Before I sold it it was getting 10 miles to the gallon with a hole in the exhaust, prolly just leaking at the donut.

It was a very good truck hence the abuse I gave it...it was still rolling down the road.

I have had both kinds of diesel. If I were to go buy a new truck it would be a chevy. The Allison tranny with the Duramax is a mean combo.

CHEVY ALWAYS

FORD= Found On Road Dead

= Fix Or Repair Daily

= Fu@$ed Over Rebuilt Dodge

and by the way, First On Race Day only applies when no other cars are on the track!!

Its hard to argue one over the other. The powerstroke is a proven performer and the duramax has made a name for itself. They will both have plenty of power.

I would say you would be good to go with either of them. It comes down to personal preference. You definitely need to test drive them both.

Got me a new truck!

I bought a new Ford F-250 and returned to the dealer yesterday because I couldn't get the radio to work. The salesman explained that the radio was voice activated.
'Nelson,' the salesman said to the radio. The radio replied, 'Ricky or Willie?'

'Willie!' he continued and 'On The Road Again' came from the speakers.
Then he said, 'Ray Charles!', and in an instant ' Georgia On My Mind' replaced Willie Nelson.
I drove away happy, and for the next few days, every time I'd say, 'Beethoven,'
I'd get beautiful classical music, and if I said, 'Beatles,' I'd get one of their awesome songs.
Yesterday, some Mexicans ran a red light and nearly creamed my new truck, but I swerved in time to avoid them. I yelled, 'Ass Holes!'
Immediately the Iranian National Anthem began to play, sung by Jane Fonda and Barbara Streisand, backed up by Michael Moore and The Dixie Chicks, with John Kerry on guitar, Al Gore on drums, Dan Rather on harmonica, Nancy Pelosi on tambourine, Harry Reid on spoons, Bill Clinton on sax and Ted Kennedy on Scotch.
Damn, I LOVE this truck!

that is one awsome truck!!!

if your looking for a way to burn your tires good, i found a good way to do it. try to find 2 old fire extinguishers* (the one you have to pump and can refill), use it up, then fill it full of bleach and spray it on the tires (one on passenger side and on the driver side). you will get them going good.

Hands Down the Chevy for reliability and pulling power. The Ford Super Duties look way better in my opinion, but lack the pulling power. Lots of engine noise in the cab, because the truck seems like it laboring when pulling. The front end on the Silverado's this model year looks like SHI_*
The GMC Sierra is the same truck, but the front end looks way better. Get the GMC or a Chevy, Just my 2 cents !

got a question. how big of lift does that thing have?

also, whats the gas mileage on it?

Tripp_kilntime_Carraway
08-07-2008, 12:46 PM
9inches of lift.

17.5 mpg without a programer. Looking at the edge attitude with Juice with 6 or 7 levels. Up to 130hp. My buddy has a 2500 with 7 inches and and the edge attidude and he is getting 20 or 21. I am not sure tho, he has been known to bend the truth a little

snow shooter
08-07-2008, 01:08 PM
17.5?! wow. thats pretty good for a truck that size.

we got a 2004 2500 V8 with an 8.1 Liter and we get 11. no matter what. we were towing a 17' Lund with a pop-up camper, 11. we were towing nothin, 11.

how long you had that truck? i am thinkin bout gettin a truck like that when i get enough cash. how much you pay for that?

My opinion has always been that if you want a highway truck go Gm product, but if you want a work horse and one that will hold up to abuse go Ford. I have seen it around here, farming country the GM's don't hold up as well as a Ford. just my .02 worth.

But again the age old question applies, is the glass half full or half empty. Everyones answer is different.
BUY WHAT YOU LIKE!!! not what others tell you to buy!

BM90
08-08-2008, 12:57 PM
now that i see its between a diesel chev, or a gas ford,

go with the chevy, definatley, strong engine, EVEN STRONGER TRANS,

if its a gasser ford, that means its either a 5.4 v8 or the 6.8 v10, the 5.4 is underpowered for anything bigger than a 1/2 ton (sometimes it feels small in a half ton). and the v10 is crap on gas, we have one for me and my dads buisiness and were only getting 8 loaded down.

And a diesel will outpull a v10 any day...

FORD!!!

My dad just traded in his 2005 F-250 diesel for a new 2008 F-250 diesel in all white. Ford is bringing it over tommorow.

Ford is the way to go!

i have 2 f150s one has just over 260,000 miles and runs like a champ! the other is a 97 and has just over 165,000 and also has no problems! chevy diesel is bada$$ but it doesnt have the ground clearance of a ford. like many have said, towing is better with a ford but for everyday highway driving i would go with a chevy ... around here i find chevy holds its value better too ... its tough but until i have a problem with ford i'll never switch ... my .02$

I have a 2000 F-350 7.3lt. and it will jerk the nuts off an elephant. The only problem I have had with the truck is the ball joints on front. They had the stock and did not last long. Big muders did not help. The new joints and A/T tires no problem. You asked a big ? ford or chevy that is almost as bad as asking Lab or Chessie. Both have there good points and both have there bad points. Before anybody asks I have a chessie. It is all what you want. The diesel will out last and out pull the gas engine. I have not heard to many bad things about the Chevy Duramax. I have heard problems with 6litre fords and that was from guys that owned the 7.3 fords.

aww sh!t, i got the reliable brother of the 7 3 in my truck, the 4.9 strait 6.

Everyone around here has the 6 liters, and they all laugh at the guys with the "7 3 junkers", but they are bad ass, they will rip a house off its foundation

We run Fords at work.....grant it they are tow trucks.....BUT

The 08 wreckers have the 6.4 twin turbo diesel in them......7.4mpg average!!!

There is another company that is running Duramax's and they are around 12-14.

Grant it we are pulling cars and trucks all over the metro area. But, that is nasty mileage for a Ford.

Right now you can get employee pricing on Fords. But, if you are leaning diesel, go Duramax.

Gassers, it's a toss up. I'd still rather have a Chev. Just needs bigger tires.

yeah the new 6.4's are junk all around, your lucky if you dont have problems stock, but when you start adding stuff you'll be breaking em left and right,

my buddys dad just bought a brand new one, hes getting 12 in a f250...granted it only has about 2500 on it, it will get better once its broken in, but not much...

Both trucks are great. A friend of mine pulls a gooseneck trailer everyday and he has both a duramax chevy and a ford powerstroke. Both work great but he leans more towards the chevy for the fact of gas mileage only.
