Hey I am in VA, but I will be at the Gander Mountain in Greensboro this weekend for the waterfowling event. If you can make it I will be more than happy to help you in anyway.

As long as you have the reed as close as possible to the end of the tone channel with out it touching or catching. You will be fine. The more reed you have showing the harder it will be to blow and the deeper the sound will be. The opposite for if you have less reed showing.

Getting that "tone" that you like and desire, can take some fine tuning adjustments.

From you photo. It' looks similar to what most calls are set at. Next time, take a fine tip permanent marker and run a line across the reed and around the tone board. This will get you extremely close to where you were in the beginning.
