i have always used cheaper poly goose calls($20-$40) and had success in the field and killed birds..but i have been looking a strait meat honker($150)..so my question is...is the strait meat honker worth that extra $100?

Yes, more durable and usually easier to blow than most poly calls

Acrylic calls offer hunters a more crisp sound rather than molded plastic. There is nothing wrong with the poly calls, but I, among others understand the importance of budgets, and bills so $150 is alot to drop on a call. But you also have to realize that if you pursue waterfowl, you are going to spend at least $150 on decoys, shells, guns, camo, and the list could go on for days. Acrylic/ wood high end calls will better your calling in my opinion alot. You can't get a consistent sounds out of poly calls like you do acrylic. If you are debating getting one, and want to up your calling a level or two, I would suggest purchasing one. Just hide the reciept from your spouse!!!

I was in your shoes a couple of weeks ago. I decided to make the leap and get a SMH and a TR. I love both. I figured that if I was spending the money buying more inexpensive calls, I might as well spend the money and buy the calls. It will pay off in the long run. GO FOR IT :)

I have spent way to much money on calls that were in that price range and let me tell you that extra hundred dollars is money well, well, spent.
all those calls will call ducks but as a callers talents progress you start telling the difference between your calls and as soon as you go to one thats properly made (like the one your lookin to buy) you will not go back to the others. You my friend are about to catch "the bug". buy the call, you wont regret it. :D :D :D

Check out the yard sale section of this forum. That's how I picked up a new Showtime call, and there are SMH's for sale almost daily. You can save some $$$ buying a "used" call, but a lot of the calls in the yard sale section are new, and do not go for the market price.
Check it out. I know, I had some trepidation about the calls, however, if you get the bug, you will never satisfy it until you buy the call you want, and a lot of times you get what you pay for.

It's definitely worth it, and it will motivate you to take calling to the next level. You'll be blowing that thing nonstop; at home and in the car...
Next, you'll be wanting a top shelf duck call.

I agree the extra money is deffinately well spent. The Acryllics will last you a lifetime. But be warned once you get your SMH, you will then be lookong for an HPH, then MH, then a SMC and so on they become an addiction.
If you want to get your feet wet with a Foiles call and dont really want to spend the money on the top of the line stuff take a serious look at the Coles Carnage Collector. It is with out a doubt the best sounding Poly Carb call out their it is only another 20 bucks higher than what you have been spending now.
