It started with the falconers. Their falcon love to eat the brain first. You pop the top let the bird eat the brain and then hunt again with the bird. The falcons many times pop the top before you even get to the ground. If you let the bird eat up it more then the brains it will not hunt for you again until it is lighter.

just bite right behind the eyes ( soft spot ) then you won't have flappers in the blind, and ducks trying to get off the stringer while in the timber. I have had them laying on a log beside me ( thought they were dead ) and 5 mins later, swimming through the decoys. Biting the head is something i have taken up in the last few years. plyers work good too

I like that sig. quote cuz it's so true. :D

I hate ringing necks, it seems to work like crap when we do it, even when you can see the things neck is like jello.

Biting the head works well, and all you have to do is crunch the bones, you don't have to take a chunk out of its head.

Feather to the back of the head is supposed to work great as well.

how does it work with a bird you want to put on the wall? we usually just compressed the chest cavity and suffocated the bird.

don't do that if you want to mount the bird. I did it on my first duck worth mounting and the head looks extremely caved in to me now! I would just let the bird die off, or like you said...sufficate him.

If you have to bite the head, do it litely on the temple till you hear a pop. the eyes should blood fill and fall back.

I was stumbled across that last night and it amused me, figured I'd see how it looked down there.

we bite them...works way better than wringing their neck. I didn't bite my wood duck that im mounting...just put his head under the wing and he was gone in a few minutes.

Oh yeah...dont bite a goose...they hurt your teeth is what I've heard.

Make sure if you do it, use your back molars (sp?)....otherwise, it will hurt like hell. When you do it, you'll feel the skull "give" a little and you can hear/feel the skull collapse. After that, they may flutter a little bit but they are toast.

on the birds tha i mount i just tell the guys to stick a small sharp knife in the center of the chest and they are usually dead then. plus that is any easy fix when mounting.
