Just want some opinions on decoys. I am just getting started and dont have alot of extra money layin around. What do u guys think of the g&h magnum classic mallards? Will the paint hold up on them. Also what do u guys think of the higdon original full body flocked decoys? Does the paint hold up and so fourth. What do u think of the ghd hot buy mallards? Would u guys recommend getting full body or shell duck decoys?

GHG "Hot Buys" are tough as nails and for $25 a dzn they are very hard to beat. I'd go with those for floaters.

I wouldnt have a problem buying the better brands like big foot and green head gear and stuff if i could find them reasonably priced somewhere. All i have around me is cabelas. Is macks prarie wings cheaper than cabelas?

I would try rogerssportinggoods.com if you want things cheap. Best by far.

I have a dozen of these and like he said for $25 they are hard to beat. I also agree w/ the checking out Rogers Sporting Goods. They are based on the north side of KC but I heard they are very reasonable on shipping.

+2 ... one guy in our crew has 4 doz. of these and they are well worth the money ... My suggestion would be to get 1 or 2 doz. depending on how big of a spread you want and with the extra cash you'll save buy a doz. blue bills or some other species in your area to break it up and get them to commit easier ... you really cant beat 1 doz. mallards for 25$ ... and i dont know if they are still doing it but when he ordered his he got free shipping too ...

i like ghg decoys but there are also alot of other good companies out there. i've killed ducks over g&h, flambeaus and carrylites. The birds will forgive alot if your on the "X". Numbers depend on how big of an area your hunting as to how many you need. As far as shells vs. full bodies i have some of both because the shells are easier to transport large numbers of decoys but they only come with stakes. So i got full bodies for the stands when in rocky or icy conditions. hope this helps.

+3 the GHG Hot Buys. I have 3 doz of these and it is extremely hard to wrong with them. i have had one dozen for 3 years and they are holding up great. for this price if you can get 5 years out of them it is well worth your money

Be sure to check out the duck decoys from Higdon. Higdon decoys have better paint than most other companies and some of their decoys are foam-filled.

Also a +4! I love my hot buys. The only thing is if you think you need 2 doz. get 3 or 4. Their size makes for a small spread.

Yeah I have several dozens of the GHG "hot buys" but they do make for a small spread. The size of the decoy isn't your typical mallard decoy. I personally think its worth the extra money to just get the life size. With the life size you get 8 drakes instead of 6 like you do with the "hot buys."
