Well boys this moringings hunt was alot more sucessful that fridays. Scouted a point on the lake where geese were hanging out at noon the day before and went out and set up on the point. About 3 dz decoys (1 1/2 dz Full bodies, 1 dz shells, and 4 floaters) set up on both water and the grass covered sandbar. First goose comes in silent and flying just above the water, it caught us all by supprise as we were all sitting up in our blinds talking. Killer Miller and myself pull up quick and bag the goose at the same time, lets just say we jellyheaded um' with the patternmasters at about 15-20 yds.
We waited forever for the geese we saw go out to feed to come back and when they did they wanted in. Well the lake we hunted is a busy lake during the weekend and this weekend is no different. Three honkers come across the bridge and everyone got down. As we are calling I hear a noise out infront of our decoys. To my suprise we had a Ski boat sitting about 75 yds outside the decoys. No one else saw it and the boys wondered what I was cussing at. Killer Miller gives the takem command. We sit up and take out the entire group, 1 being banded. I dont know what the boater was thinking after we killed the group.
Well I went out in the boat before we picked up and you couldn't see the blinds at all, however the decoys looked like the real McCoy. So I think they were stopping to watch the geese land. They got quite the show from their point of view.
I do have a question, What do you do if people dont keep their distance? We had that Ski boat come within 75 yds of us, a Kyaker come right up into our decoys, and a fisher come within 40 yds of us. Kinda frustrating when geese are unpredictible and could come at anytime. I dont want to be rude by telling them to get out of there, but on the other hand they are being rude by coming so close to us. What would you do?[/b]

I'd speak up and let them know politely that you are hunting here and that they are in a very dangerous spot. So they need to clear out as quickly as possible. And if they don't, well then they've been duly noted, and just make sure you don't fire in their direction, they'll get out of there real quick. That's why I don't like hunting on public lakes, too many idiots out there.

I would just let them know that they need to leave because they are in a dangerous situation. Where I hunt on the river for ducks every year we have a guy that wades the river to fish early mid oct about 80 to 100 yards from the blind and i asked him if he wouldnt fish because he was ruining the hunting for us and he was putting himself in a dangerous situatuion if a flock of birds came in. Well despite me asking him kindly if he still comes out there and fishes pisses me off. So sometimes talkin to them just dont work they have to learn the hard way.

Dekker, you think thats lucky? 6 bands in one year and a day. I killed my first band on labor day last year! How weird is that? And Al, I've probably only killed about 10 geese since the 7 band massacre on the day after Christmas. It was like X-mas came a day late last year and it came early this year. But yeah, I was due. Ohh and BTW, I saw the band in the air. NOT

sounds good mill....go to the deer cam thread and look at the MONSTER running our farm. I'm pretty sure that was the deer I shot at last year during shotgun season!

Well the Iowa Killin' Crew is on the road this weekend. Killer Miller is headed to Ft. Madison to hunt Honkers and Teal on the river. Hopefully he will come out with a couple of limits.
Here in central Iowa we still have our "Metro Season" open, however it has been uneventfull. The geese havent been working as well as hoped. Most of the geese have figured it out and are chillin on the refuges and city ponds.
King Killa and I are headed south for the Iowa 2 day statewide early season goose. Got a silege field that should produce a good shoot. It sits a mile from a refuge and within 1/4 mile of some large ponds and marshes that usually hold alot of geese. With any luck the geese will be in our face.

I MY GOD THE TAEL!!! My dad and I went out today to set up the decoys so we don't have to do it in the morning. Had several flocks of teal land right in the blocks. A large flock of about 30 landed about 10 yards from the blind. I also got to try out the Timber Rattler out in the field for the first time, called several single mallards right in and landed them. Also worked a group of 4 pinny's within range too. When we got there, several family groups of geese were around our blind, one group within a 100 yards or so!! With the Iowa opener of goose, we should get the geese tomorrow, as there is no doubt in my mind that a 4 man limit of teal will be killed lickity-split!! SHoot em up boys!! Derek, should I leave the Pattternmaster in for teal! No, Briley Light Modified is in the barrel now.
