I just bought a SMH from a buddy and it has all clear guts in it.

From reading around on here they arent foiles guts?

Are they or arent they?

Thanks
Chris

PS my first foiles post.

Is your call #'d at all? It doesn't sound like any of Foiles guts, his are either gray or green. Is it sounding ok? If you need new guts, I'm sure you can call the shop and order some, or send your call in and they'll put new guts in and retune it how you'd like it.

The call is #'ed. I'm new to the short reed call but I think even with my inexperience it should sound better than it does.

Where do i need to send it to get new guts and tuned?

Ned:

Foiles calls should either have green guts or grey guts. Call the shop 1-866-83-GEESE and talk to one of the girls or Big Sean. They will give the address and get you taken care of!!!!

A buddy of mine has SMH #0034 and his call has the clear guts in it also. Is your call a low number? I'm wondering if it is the gut system of the begining?

I have never seen a Foiles call with clear guts...but, you might be right...call the shop and see what they say!!!

My call is # 551. Maybe clear was the early guts?

If remember correctly, the early SMHs had magnum clucker style guts and were either black or clear. I had an early edition smh and it had black guts in it. Later, the green came out and that's what all the SMHs went to.

I talked to foiles today and they told me that the early SMH had other color guts than green or grey. didnt specify what other colors they were though.

If you look on the back side of tone board on the guts, it should say Strait Meat, molded into the tone channel. If you hurry and send it in, I'm sure they'll get you all tuned up, and I'd just put a new set of guts in also, get it back to you in time for late goose season. I'll send you a pm also with some info on tuning your call. I hope it helps! Good luck brother!

Al, isn't your call # 0055 or something like that? Im sure it has the old guts. Do the guts and reed look ok? If so, I would keep it since everyone is always raving about "worn in guts are awesome"! Good luck tomorrow evening brother!! Hopefully I'll call you when ur still asleep with the "ALL DONE, HONKERS AND TEAL!!" :D I hope we are because I dont think this is ivy that is on my legs? Might have to go to the doctor cause its really messed up looking and doesnt feel like ivy?!

O.K. were going to have a little history of FMI gut systems. Back in the old days when the SMH came out they had clear guts. Later on there were black guts and dark green guts which had FM STRAIT MEAT molded into them, from there we moved on to the green guts that the current acrylic calls have and then the grey guts came out that Jeff uses in the in the Meat Grinder. The original Tundra Savers also had the clear guts in them. The Clear guts were very hard and brittle, the black and dark green ones were hard but not brittle they took forever to break in a set but once you got it they lasted for ever. The new green ones are softer which allows them to break in fairly easily. If my memory serves me correctly the proto type Meat Cutters had clear guts, I have a set of low number MeatCutters with white guts/FMI Straight Meat molded in them, I have never seen another set like them and don't know how many were made. The Meat Cutter now has guts the same with the same green color as the short reeds. Hope that clears some of the confusion. Johnny McDonnell

Grinder.....your so smart....for a MN boy!

Philly's clear guts in his call #0034, just recently cracked, tone board and wedge. It surprisingly still sounds good, and still calls them in. I'm sure he'll pick up a new set of guts here soon.

Yeah I know, J/K... If I was Philly I'd have that call in the safety deposit box, clear guts and all. It will be worth some $$$ some day. Johnny McDonell

I'll let him know that. I suppose it won't help that it is engraved now. Has Jeff's signature on it, but there is more than that on it also.

Grinder? Been out at all? Let me know when ya want to get out and hunt!
