I know this has been asked a thousand times but what is the ideal "mixed bag shotgun shell." Where im hunting we have an equal amount of mallards and canadian geese. Im looking for that one round to handle both of them. I am hunting a river on a sandbar, soybean fields, and picture perfect flooded timber! I shoot a Benelli M2 field with a PM extended range choke. If you guys know of a "do it all" shotgun shell it would really help, thanks.

3 1/2" 2's or if you can find B would suit both ducks and geese pretty well.
Winchester Xtended range 3 1/2" 2's would be a good but expensive choice.

Where I hunt we also have mixed birds. We may be working ducks and geese fly by and start working. I have found that the best all around shell is a BB.I also found that BBB works well also. Now this is being shot from a 10 ga. so take for what it is worth. I have found that this is a deadly combo, short and long range. Hope this is helpful.

I always carry 3" either BB or BBB in Kent fasteel. Never had a duck get torn up, and plenty of power to knock out geese.

3.5 BB they are the best for me...you just have to remember to try real hard to head shoot the ducks..but i figure the bigger the better...its kinda like boobs!!!!

3" 1 shot Federal Premium.

shot a goose that was 11.5 pounds on saturday, along with a few other geese, then a few ducks.

Shot a limit of cacklers on sunday, with the biggest being right about 3lbs.

Gives you more pellets to hit them with, while still maintaining the ability to bring death at 50 yards.

He's shooting a M2, so all the 3.5 listings are out. I shoot a M2 as well and my load is #2 blackcloud for the same exact bag you listed. It hasn't let me down so far.

3in 2's would be your best bet!!! Lots of knock down power plus gives ya more pellets to hit them with! I have killed a lot of geese with 2 shot out of a 20 ga even!! I like 2 shot for everything!!

I shoot a mixed bag so i cant really decide on one either.

But, my partner shoots 3 1/2" #1's and puts a hurtin' on everything he hits. So that would'nt be a bad load to try.

the real question is what range are you killing most of your birds? most of mine are under 35 yards and i shoot 2-4 size shot in 2-3/4" to 3" shells for everything from teal to giant honkers.

Here in KS, we have as many of one as we do the other, so my choice of shell is a 31/2" BB, a little heavy for ducks, but can reach out and get those big honkers.

I shoot 1s in Kent Fast Steel in 3.5 and 3 inch. Through a Pattern Master or a Light Modified Extended. Seems to work for me!! I am no staffer but I hope it helps! Later Bubba

Past experience says....3" #2 with the gun and choke combo you are shooting. You may be able to get away with #3 if you cut your distance to inside 35yards - simply due to the tight pattern thrown by the PM choke.

3" #2 would be my choice in your situation.
