I hunt open marshes in KS, and a little in Mound City, MO. I need to get a new duck call and was wondering what you would suggest. I saw the new Dead Meat and I really like how it sounds. Is that a good choice or do you think I should stick with the Strait Meat? I just wanted a little insight into the differences and what each is best for. Thanks

I think you'd love the Dead Meat! I don't know what type of hunting you are usually doing, the Strait Meat Mallard is more of a open water call, it's alittle tough for the low end stuff, but a great call. The Timber Rattler is more of a timber call, great low end, and in a single reed it can get loud if needed. The Dead Meat Mallard is kind of like a hybrid between the 2, Can get loud enough for open water (doesn't ring), and it has awesome low end, very easy to blow call, In my opinion the best call Foiles makes, awesome hunting call! It will see the majority of my hunting this year. Good luck to you. Let us know what you decide on!

hoosierhunter put it very well. The I have all 3 and a legend, and really like them all, but the new Dead meat mallard is my new favorite, this call will pretty much do it all, it is pure duck with out a doubt. For ducks I spend most my times on some big lakes and small rivers with some occasional flooded timber, and I intend to use the DMM as my primary goto duck call this year. I will still keep the others on my lanyard for those days on the lake I need to reach out and grab their attention, or when I need to get a little lower in the the timber with my TR, but I imagine the DMM will see most the work.

Thanks for your replies. I do most of my hunting on open marshes. However, there is some mix marsh/flooded timber that we have had some really good hunts in. And the occasional river hunt. I think I am going to go to the store and try out the Dead Meat. So far I like what you have said about it being a hydrid, so I might just have to go with DMM.
