View Full Version : aluminum drc
A while back someone said that drc makes there calls in alot of diffrent things than just the acrylic they have on there site.
Wood, aluminum, delrin, poly ect...
Well the person gave aluminum as an example, and I was thinking about that today in my manufacturing class in college. We have to design a cnc program and make something out of aluminum with it for our final. I was thinking about making an aluminum goose call.
anyone heard one, i dont want to spend time making it, and than have it come out like crap, but at the same time it might be a cool idea.
Thanks, i know that was alot to read, and im tired so i probably didnt use the best vocabulary, but any input would be great.

I was at Game Fair when Cory blew the Aluminun call in the comp...It sounded awesome! I could be wrong but, the insert was the only thing that was aluminum.

Cory also said they are louder, and I hunted with him a couple weekends ago and they were a littley chilly, and heavier than the acyrlic calls. They were pretty cool though. All aluminum with dipped color for inserts or mouthpieces as well. I didnt ask if they were going on sale.

Cory stuck his in the contest...
They are thicker, and heavy, I would imagine if you made it thin enough it would tend to bend and maybe even ring a little, so I would do it thicker.
I would really just make an insert for one of your barrels you have now, that way you know exactly what specs to make, as opposed to having to figure out a whole new call.
Either way, be sure to put up some pics and let us hear it when you get it done.

They do make them out of anodized aluminum. They have a couple colors, black, chrome, and green maybe. I haven't had the opportunity to run one for myself so I can't base an opinion on them.
They are supposed to be louder than acrylic, according to Cory.
if i do it i was gonna model it after a smh or hph or real thang or something,
not sure if im gonna do it yet though. im still deciding on how to do it without it ringing like a bitch or sounding like crap

The best thing you could do is ask Cory if they ring. He is the only call maker I know that is building aluminum calls.
I know he wouldn't waste money turning them and using them in competition if they didn't sound good!!!!

Keats also makes aluminum inserts.
And the inside of Mac Island calls are aluminum.

It is aluminum not plastic. You have to make it REALLY thin in order for it to bend...
I believe he was referring to the duck call when sticking was mentioned.

Well that is all I am saying, wouldn't you think that making it thicker would take any chance of it ringing out???
I think that would be the answer, but I wouldn't know for sure...

I don't know that it makes any difference. You would have to hit the frequency at which aluminum vibrates in order for it to ring.
Give it a shot and make a couple different inserts with changes in OD.
