They need to be licensed in Illinois.
The DNR will wait at the docks and give tickets
out if it isn't registered. They also check the
safety stuff.

If the boat is only used for hunting, the boat DOESN'T need to be licensed.
If its a dual purpose it does...ie fishing and hunting.

I actually did buy a used MN used duck boat
from Warners Marine at the Wisc border. I crabbed
at Warners about the registration and they registered it
in Wisc for me for free. The boat didn't have a titel
and I needed one for registration in Ill.
Anyhow I will use the boat with the Wisc registration until
it expires. This boat was a 1986 Monark 1448 Jon boat.
It had the MN boat stickers on it.

Regardless if the boat has a motor or not, you don't need to license it for hunting only. If you plan on fishing out of it, or going to a different state, you need to register it and have the numbers and year tags on it.

In Ne. as long as the boat doesnt have a motor (gas, diesel, electric) is does not have to be.

Hunting boat only= no registration.
Also if you are on water you don't have to be 500' from the nearest house, you can hunt right next to it, you just can't shoot at the houses.
Last I checked you cannot hunt layout style, you must be in submerged vegetation.
If you are all legal, fishermen cannot fish by you either, forgot the name of that law/rule, but a legal hunter has the right of way so to speak.
You can't shoot a gun with the motor running so if you have to go clean up a cripple, cut the engine before you start blasting. I have never had a DNR officer mind about this rule, a quick clean kill seems to be more important, and I agree with that.
Always have your life jackets, and it is good to have a flotation cushion whether you legally need it or not.
Don't shoot seagulls or cormorants, no matter how many are circling you, and no matter how much you want to pretend they look like snow geese or weird canadas.
And good luck.

NOT IN NEB. ACCORDING TO THE GAME WARDEN, ITS THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
BUT I KNOW ITS DIFFERENT FROM STATE TO STATE.
