I have a field I wanted to hunt for about 20 years now. I found out the farmer kicked the guy out who had sole hunting privileges.
This farmer is the nicest guy in the world.
This summer I sent my 12 year old over there once a week to ask him about doing some chores around his farm. Once he rode over the John Deer mower and asked to cut his grass.
Many times I would send him over on his 4 wheeler and ask him for some work to do.
During raspberry season I sent him over there with 20 pounds of fresh raspberries.
Here is the iffy part. I paid my kid 5 bucks every time he went over there. He like to hunt but does not understand how important this is to getting permission so I told him he can earn money for the Ipod he wants.
Well guess what the farmer told him 2 weeks ago "you and your dad can hunt here any time you want"
On other farms I always stop by and ask the farmer if they need help picking rock. That has gotten permission in many great spots.
My hunting buddy and I control over 50% of the hunting land in our area. We still do not have any great early season spots yet but I will be bailing hay next year!
Ask yourself this question "what is in it for the farmer?"
Friday I will be dropping off 2 meals of Walleyes (fish) for him.
Just some ideas
Thanks
John
