i dig down about half a foot and bring a rake along also so i can rake up whatever is left behind in the fields from when the combine goes through. it all works out great if u dig a nice deep hole and get enough stubble to cover your blind. make sure u fill in your hole when your done hunting, u dont wanna piss off the farmers when they find holes in their field.

Well said. I go a little more than a half foot though.

My field hunting for geese is done strictly in a harvested soy field. Have never found the need to dig a hole to put my blind in. Muddied it real well and use Avery Killerweed. Decoy birds with no problems of flaring except when I am sitting up in my blind like a dork not paying any attention to birds coming in :x
