I'm considering buying this DVD. But i am curious to which call they are training on?
I have the Meat Grinder and would hate to find out after the fact that they are using something different.
So Will this video and my call be ok or do i need a different call.
Thanks,
Sam

Jeff goes thorugh all his calls on the dvd. But once you learn how to blow one of his shortreeds you should be able to blow them all. Def. a good buy!

Thanks for the info.
It is so weird to go from a flute to a short reed, specially when you dont have to blow your lungs out to get it to work.
I think the neighbors may have decided i was crazy since i been practicing.
I bought both meat grinders used so im not sure if they are tuned, does the video go over this too?

Jeff says in the DVD that they will go over tuning and cleaning later in the DVD but never does. In the Duck Calling 2.0 he does go into tuning and cleaning but not the geese. I started on a shortreed and then decided to tackle the flute. I use both in the field somtimes both on one flock. Use that short reed to reach out and touch um and finish um' with the ol' gander sound of a flute.
The air requirement has alot to do with how you tune the call. The more reed that is exposed the more air and deeper sounding it will be and vice versa. I dont expose alot of reed, I like my call to be loud, crisp, and fast without using alot of air. If you send the calls in they will gladly tune them for you.

I agree with Migrator , you can learn more from the dvd than any other way, for one Jeff explains the sounds and how to make them and with the Dvd you can play it over and over and listen to the sounds and learn to duplicate them, You would use the same technique on the meat grinder as you would on any of the short reeds If you can get with a good caller they can help you but , with the dvd you can replay it all the time so you know when you are getting the correct notes and sounds.

Callin Geese 2.0 is an excellent instrutional dvd for all of Jeff's calls. Like previously stated once you learn to blow one of his short reeds you can blow them all. If you are looking for tuning advice try Western Wingshooters Goose Hunting 101 The Art of War. Rees shows you how to tune calls.

VERY solid advice right there!!! The biggest thing that hinders most callers is the lack of patience and persistance in their calling. Using a shortreed goose call is not something that is going to happen overnight, or in a couple months for that matter. It will take years to master these calls....and most, if not all, have not or will never totally master the shortreed. You can bet, the most proficient callers out there, like Big Sean, have spents countless hours everyday blowing a call, working on new notes, perfecting sequences, etc.
If there is anything I can tell you about blowing a shortreed.....take your time and learn to call one note at a time. Learn the honk. Master it...learn the cluck...master it. Learn the moan...master it. And so on!!!
Good luck and stay with it ..... it will come eventually!!!

Hey Sam, good luck, if you ever need any help pm me maybe we can meet up and go over some calling, we going to have a calling seminar here in Greenwood at the Gander Mtn store in October, I'll keep you updated as to when. I'm going to send you a pm also with some tuning advice.

I know what you mean about making the switch,I switched to a short reed after blowing a flute for better than 20 years. It took some time to figure it out, but after a lot of pracrice it just clicked. Now I prefer my short reeds to my flute for most all occasions, but at the same time you won't catch me in the field with out my trust Meat Cutter flute, some times the geese just need that "old gander" sound. Like Spence and Rascal Flatts said, practice, practice, practice. The DVD will help a ton. Good luck and enjoy.
