i have a 3 year old golden retriever never been hunting or around gun shots, and she takes signals pretty good, and i was wondering what you guys think to make her not gun shy. i dont now if she is yet but what do you guys think about taking a dummy out to the field, throwing it so she is occupied and then pretending like im shooting it. do you guys think that this would work. any info would help cause i think i got a world champion field trial dog on my hands.

take her to a trap range and slowly introduce her to gun fire, start aways back from the shooters and slowly bring her closer

only one way to find out if shes gun shy and thats to be around guns. i took my pup out and threw a dummy and shot in the general viscinity and it didnt even phase her. she had never been around a gun till that point.
no offence guys not the gun range or anything extreme use a toy cap gun during happy time IE: eating playing with a ball or anything your dog likes but dont scare the **** out of it or it will be gun shy and do this in moderation till the dog gets use to it

i started out with my buddy firing a 22 a little ways away and gradually worked up to the big ones. this seemed to woork pretty well. I have to agree that it is probally best to do this when the dog is preoccupiedd and just watch to how the dog reacts. It will let you know.
