Is this a good idea, or should I just use them on land like they were designed? It's a lot cheaper than buying floaters if I can get away with it but wasnt sure if it'd flare birds if one decoy wasnt perfectly on water level. We hunt on flooded rice.

I have heard of guys using pipe insulation. The black foam stuff that is split down the side. They go around the bottom edge and drill a couple holes in shell. put it on with stay tyes. I have done that but they are a little tippy. In a rice field if ur stakes can keep them out of the water I would be using shells in my spread.I am no staffer but, Thats my 2 cents worth I hope it helps. BUBBA

I put some of that piping along my Higdon shells and they actually work pretty well. I like how you can get more head positions as well.
double the pipe insulation on the front half and they will float fine :!:

SPRAY FOAM OR THE PIPE INSULATION WILL WORK. I use the spray foam twords the front to balance the weight of the head and then I wrap the bottoms with insulation. It will work.. Then save your money and buy floaters. Ha Ha..
