It was opening day for the IL Central Zone. Certainly not a slaughter, but we still had a great time. There were five of us in two boats w/blinds. Four greenheads and a hen gadwall.
We saw enough for all of us to limit out three times, but the birds were acting like they already had an education. Wierd for the opener; however, the border for the North Zone was only a few miles up river, so the same birds working us were probably shot at last weekend for the North Zone opener.
Also, in retrospect, I think our strategy was wrong with regard to the mojo deployment. We ran four; two on each side of the boats and only one of them had a remote switch. This was too many for educated birds circling cautiously. We should have only used the remote mojo and placed it out front, in the landing area. Once the birds see the spread and begin their approach, turn it off. Next time we'll do what we should already know.
