Unless I think I really need more volume to be heard, I love the sound of some good wood over acrylic.

Honestly, i like the sound better in acrylic and I think acrylics easier to blow.

Although I don't use wood much they are great for close work. They sound softer and work good for close ducks and geese.

I love my wood calls....Now I will say that each wood has it's own sound and some sound better than others. They tend to have a much more softer "ducky" sound to them. If you have never tried one and you will see what I am talking about. I use mine in a double reed and it is very hard to beat for a "meat" call.

just like brian said, they mellow the call down. And that is a big + to us southern boys who have to talk pure duck to finish off fat heads once they have been shot at, dusted, called to, and kept strong all the way from our brothers in Canada. i have two tr's on my lanyard, one for working, one for finishing. one is acrylic, one is wood. you can guess which one is the last thing the ducks will hear!!!

A good raspy call...hardwood for the flooded oak timber. Got a bud uses a olt...sounds like crap standing next to him but get out away sound great. The legend will fit right in a olt barrel. You will blow out a intestine useing one.

I love wood calls. I have a cocobola TR on my lanyard right now. I also agree there is a time and place for the wood calls but over all they a tough to bet! I also like Flammed Hedge in the HPH. The best goose call for hunting geese over the water period!!!
But to each his own and whatever you like is what you like
