Hey all you hunters. I have a goose calling question. When I call it sounds to clean, it doesn't sound like a goose. I think my tounge might flip up but does any body have a hond position or throat thing that will help?

Too Clean? I guess I dont really get what you are saying. Is it not raspy or growly. If so try voice inflection. I frankly like a clean sounding call, they are loud and crisp which are two great features of a goose call. I have a buddy that uses alot of voice inflection in his calls and he sounds horrible when he does it. The thing about a good clean note is it will travel alot further than a growly note, it has the capability to "reach out and touch" the geese that are FAR off. I hope this helps some. One other thing if you are tryin to add voice inflection to all your calling it might slow you sequencing down, which can be bad if you are trying to sound like a BUNCH of geese. Just my .02 cents

I agree with Iowa that cleaner notes sound better but a buzzy sounding call mixed in sounds even better. One of my huntin partners calls buzzy and it mixes in and sound really well. To make it a buzzier sounding call I believe I say grat on gret. I just put a little growl into the clucks.

i mean like, when i blow my call, i can do the clucks n moans n stuff, it sounds fine but its not really "goosey" if you get what i'm saying-the geese seem to respond to it but i'm not satisfied with my sound

I would suggest a putting a little voice into it, I will sometime growl a bit with my clucks, and it sounds like the single goose sitting their clucking. I like the clean crisp sound when I am trying to grab their attention at a distance, but when they get in a bit closer I like to get a little more gravely sound in it.

I'm no prostaffer by any means, but for me I get the "goosier" sound on my calls with growling it feels like a vibration in my throat, I hunt over water alot and I like this sound when the geese get in close. My two cents hopefully the real experts can give you some more advice.

Couple things here brother....you don't need to growl into the call to get that good goosey sound. The key is presenting the air properly...if you are presenting the air properly into the call (i.e., PUSHING the air from your diaphragm, instead of blowing air from your lungs, and your tongue placement is correct) you will get that nice little goosey buzz without having to growl into the call. I use voice inflection (growling if you will) very little, other than to maybe change the tones up a bit here and there and on my murmurs - but that's it.....just watch starting to growl into the call all of time - you will need to learn to shut it off for certain notes and at certain times during certain notes. It will also slow your speed down a bit....
My personal opinion....growling into to a goose call is only necessary on certain notes (murmurs, train, and maybe one or two others). If you are presenting the air properly, your tongue placement is correct, and you know how to manage back pressure properly with your hands...you can get any tone - low to high out of a call without growling.
Hope that helped!!!
Just my two cents!!!!
