I was wondering the difference between single reed and double reed. I ordered a new call from Cabelas. I went with the Dead Meat Mallard. However, my mom ordered it because it was a gift. She got me a single reed and I wanted a double reed. I was just wondering the pros and cons. I have only used double reed calls. I am an ok caller but not a real good one yet. I am debating on whether or not I should send it back and get a double reed.

KS I would call the shop because I believe you can just get the second reed and put it in yourself instead of getting an entire new call, because when I bought my SMM it came double and I wanted a single I called the shop and they just said to pull the second reed out.

Yes you can get tthe double reed set. It comes with a long and short(dimples reed). Long on Bottom Short on top, with the dimples down. Also you have to change the saniprene wedge in the call. It is a little thicker with the single than the double to accomodate for the extra reed. The double is extreamly ducky but doesnt have the loudness of a short reed. The DMM sounds awsome in both but I would rather have it as a Double. Also I had never tried the double reed SMM till this year and I am probably going to change mine over to a double, its sound is out of control!

Different hunting situations call for different calls. You are better off if you learn both. Look at the birds and how they respond that day. The moon, air thickness, water or land hunting, hunting an echo area, food, hunting pressure, & so on can change everything. ( JUST GET A BIG BAG OF TRICKS MAN) & good hunts to ya.

I've never blown a double reed foiles call, but I've blown other double reeds and to me they all seem to sound great on top, but have no duck whatsoever on bottom. Has anyone else experienced this? It could just be the calls I've blown.

iayounggun you need to blow a dr tr or dm. Unbelievably ducky on the low ends. This website offers soundfiles of both calls.

Yep, Iowa you need to blow a double reed Timber Rattler. So freakin ducky, high or low end its not even funny.

KS, try the dead meat with the single reed. If you dont like it, a double reed set is only like $5. I just changed my SMM to a double reed and love it. Its still pretty loud.

i will have to try the DR TR, ive tried the SR TR and I think that is near the best call ive heard, I just cant justify spending $125 on a call

$125-$150 seemed like a lot for a call to me too. In fact I said I'd never spend that much on a call. My girlfriend bought me a SMH for Christmas a couple years ago and now I have the cackler, meatcutter, showtime, timber rattler, strait meat mallard, and dead meat mallard. The price was definitely worth it for me after using the calls. But if you don't want to spend that much money try out the Legend. It is a lot cheaper and still a great sounding call.

Just got the Dead Meat back from the shop with double reed in it instead of single. I love it. Good work shop, thanks.

I called foiles and got a double reed setup mailed to me for free (THANK YOU FOILES!) . There were no instructions in the pack. Anyone have a picture of what the final install looks like? and the order of the reeds?

Thanks!

Long reed on bottom, short reed with dimples pointing down on top. Hope this helps

Yep Paul is right...Im gonna expand on it a little for you. The dimples point downwards, touching the first and longer reed. THe dimples are there to make it so the reeds dont stick together so the call doesnt stick, or very easy anyways. You should def. be able to figure it out now. O and the reeds should be pre-cut so that both go clear the back of the tone board.
