I have a SMH and i am looking for another call to have as a second option for differnt hunting situations. Im still learning alot about the finer parts of calling correctly. If i already have a SMH and wanted another goose call what would everyone reccomend? Im primarily hunting flooded corn, flooded fields, and a big sandbar on the Wabash river.

Hph----very good option, and the Hedge is a great sounding call! But may wanna try the acrylic version also, you can get them to sound low and goosey too.

I would go with a higher pitched call, the SMH is a deeper toned call, having a higher pitched call as well would work great.

Coles carnage, or the cackler.

What I would do: Cackler barrel with a short competition insert. Call will be loud, higher pitched, and really get attention well.

Yea, but why would you recommend another deeper/mid tone ranged call???

Not to say you couldn't tune the HPH or SMH higher pitched, but for what they are intended, they would be to close for me to want both on the lanyard.

I can get plenty deep and mellow on a smh, but then what you can't get, or can't get as realistically, is the higher pitched goose you would get from a cackler call, or hybrid cackler.

It just makes sense to keep a lower/deeper pitched call and a higher pitched call on the lanyard.

Same reasoning behind having a louder screamer style duck call, then a timber duck call on the lanyard.

You want to cover each end of the spectrum, not just the same end, or close to it.

Some days the geese will prefer a deep call, some days (or 90% of the time as I've found) they want a higher pitched call.

its just a matter of how you tune your calls. but the showtime would also be a great call to pair up with as well as a cackler. i havent tried a cc so couldnt say. just depends on what your looking for in sound. go somewhere and try them all, or listen to the sound files. that may help you in your decision.

How nice would it be if .......WE HAD SOUNDFILES! But, there are'nt any for the newer calls or any of the BGB line................tragic.

do a search on here for soundfiles, a few of the guys have posted up some of themselves calling on different calls, that may help also.

I know, i just dont see why they have'nt been posted like the rest. Such as the Strait Timber, Spec, Tundra Saver, Suzy, CCC, & all the BGB line. How many World class callers are on the staff again? Not all of us have a store that stocks these calls. So we dont have the ability to run one in person. So we rely on those files to give us a general idea of what a call may sound like. $100 + dollars is a lot to spend on a call that you may not like and cant return!
