Well a couple weeks ago we had to head to the Mayo Clinic again for my daughter. Went to WI to pick up my Mother in law. Called my buddy Jon and told him I could hunt for a day if he could. He took a vacation day and we went after them. I met Jon via the net. I had posted in a WI forum that I was coming to a certain area and I just asked some general questions. Anyway Jon went above and beyound and invited me to hunt. Man we had a blast. That was two years ago.
Now on this hunt a couple of weeks ago we would be running traffic. The wind was against us but we figured what the heck. Anyway Jon always calls me a Goose God or something like that. So he said if I miss then he will think I am full of crap. Well legal shooting came and went. It was about 930 and Jon was getting a bit worried. We had seen some birds but not the #s he had been seeing. His buddy Charlie was ready to pack it in and honestly I was thinking the same. I figured it was still great to spend the time in the field with them guys. Well I guess around 10ish they started to come. First a single. I called the shot and man I missed all 3 rounds and I think on the 9th shot the bird came down. Well below are some photos of Jackie making the retrieve.
First picture the goose sees Jackie coming and gets in a defensive posture:

Jackie is now circling the goose. She is young and really did not know what to do:

Well of course the dang pesky geese started to come again so I got down and started on the call. Well just as I put the camera down the goose took off and Jon smoked it. Dam it would have been a sweet photo.
The other birds still came in and landed (well most of them). About 20 of them. Charlie said take em but it sounded like a question and so I yelled yes but Charlie was already up. Anyway as I picked out a goose and was about to pull the trigger Charlie shot it. I picked out another and missed and missed and missed. All that was going through my head was the crap I was going to get.
Well the first one Charlie dropped took off. He yelled for Jon to shoot but Jon was shooting at the others. In the mean time I had time to reload. And picked out a departing goose and on the third shot I dropped it stone dead. If I must say it was one hell of a shot. Jon comes back with 3 of our birds. Puts them in a pile since more birds are on the way. Those birds if I remember did not work us. I get out of my blind to check out our birds on the ground. Jon lifts two of the birds up and the bird on the bottom of the pile flies off. I was gunless. Charlie did not have a shot and Jon emptied his gun. The goose just flew away like nothing was wrong. :x Must have been stunned.
Here comes 3 birds. I call the shot. First one drops, second drops, and the third drops. Jackie goes for the 3rd. Gets about 15 yards from it and it comes back to life and flies away. Talk about crazy. That would have been the limit.
So we started to talk about picking up when we hear some honking. Here comes a flock of 7 I guess. They tell me the last bird is mine. One of them had a definite leg hanging down. One of two things. It was broken or it had a band. I pointed the bird out to them and we agreed that would be the bird to kill. It goes sideways by me. I say should I shoot it? They start yelling yes yes so I jump up, bird was about 45 to 50 yards going from right to left. One shot and I rolled it.
Here is the group shot. Jackie, Jon, Me, and Charlie with a WI limit.
