Long day, hunting through a blizzard / white out in the morning for about 2 hours and then sitting on the birds until they flew again. But, it was worth it!!!! Pretty good day all in all....going out to my favorite woody hole tonight after work and gonna hit a beaver pond tomorrow night for a 2 man mallard shoot!!!

How did the rest of you PA boys do??????? Scott, Brad, Jeremy, Ryan?????

Decided to sit in the tree stand saturday morning. We had blue bird
skies with morning temps. in the high 20's and afternoon highs around
50. Have been seing a good deer around the house and was hopping the
cold temps would have him up.

Did pick-up a 600 acre corn field to goose hunt though, so the day wasn't
a total loss.

We hit the mallard hole on Tuesday night  ...shot my limit of mallards and woodies :D !!! A LOT MORE  ducks there than when I scouted it before! If the weather stays rainy...just might hit it again tomorrow (this pond/swamp freezes quick...gotta get some hunts in while it is still open  ).

We closed here in the South Zone today. What a day full of twists and turns. This mornings hunt started very intresting to say the least. I was going to meet my very good friend Rob aka NJHonker at 5 am this morning for a hunt with my son Dylan aka greenwing. I woke up at a little before 4am and was getting ready to go at 415 my phone rang it was Rob informing me he was crossing the Delaware river into PA. So I left Dylan sleep until about 5am then we ran out on the river set the spread and the spinner. Came in met rob right at my launch and turned back out and set the boat in postion and were right on time for the first flocks which never showed up. We stayed out until about 11 and managed to pick up a couple greenheads nothing really exciting. But 6hours in a boat blind is a long time for Dylan being he is only six we were kept entertained by an Osprey doing some fishing as well as the eagles were out and about and very intrested in the spinner. From there we went for lunch and went out for the afternoon. Rob had never taken a banded duck before and I was telling him I just have a feeling today of being lucky. The first duck we picked up was a nice woodie drake nothing special. Then Rob was up he conected with a really nice fully plummed drake woody, As I took the boat for the retrieve I said to him I bet the bird is banded. He pulled it up over the front of the boat and sure enough it wearing ***elery!!!! Next came a pair of mallards the drake never gave a good shot and we took the hen. I dont normally even shoot at hens but did we went and retrieved it and it was also wearing ***elry. To say we were going nuts would be an understatement. We then had to woodies come in. I called the shot for Rob he took one of them. We went for the retrieve and I said there is no way this one would be banded as well. He scooped up the bird and believe it or not it was also banded. I was floored and still have the shakes. We may not have harvested alot of birds today but I have a full limit of memories. Spending time in on the river with my son and one of my best friends really made it special.

Well I know you guys in the NW still got a few more days left hope you guys put it to them.....

Well I'm new to the forum and a week late on this post but I am proud of my opener. I have to say it was one of the best days i have had duckin in PA in a long while. All in all we had probablly a total of about 150 ducks flyin from light until 9:30 or so. The best chance was when we worked about 40 or so into one big flock that after 10 mins of lip numbing work the cupped and locked up and dropped right in. Unfortunatly out of the six of us there were only 4 birds taken. I got 2 drake mallards and my buddy got a pair of mallards. Its ok though cause it was only us 2 doing all the calling. But throughout the morning we got more mallards, teals and woodies like most everyone else in PA. For me i got 6 birds. What was better yet was I went out tuesday morning and got a pair of shovelers. It was my first shoveler i have ever shot. Unfortunately the plumage wasnt complete and I think he was a juv. bird. But that morning i got the pair of shovelers, a blue and a green winged drakes and 2 mallards. So is this is a sign of the season to come I'm very excited and hope to see more types of ducks. Anyhow, good luck the for the rest of the regular season and hope everyone shoots well.

Hey Guy's, I'm a newbie to these boards, but can say, alot of good info and stories being tossed around. Great site!! I spent the opener in ND this year, (as usual) but have been getting some action with woodies and mally's up until close. We had a good woodie float the other day up north, prob 150 birds or so, and 2 limits, but it was rough and alot of work, but hey...........that's waterfowlin'.
