I've heard certain callmakers are now offering calls with a "broken-in" set of guts. What makes them so good? They had better be amazing because they cost about $45 more than a regular set of guts.

Broken in guts just sound more goosy, for me it's easier to make more difficult notes on than a new set is.. Broken in guts is where the reed slaps the tone channel and wears a groove ,,When you blow your call enough and then take the reed out you can see the grooves..So i guess in short if you pratice a lot on your call you will start having worn in guts.. Some people put a air hose to them or different ways but the best way is just to blow your call a lot.. Are worn in guts worth 45 dollars to me i would say yes, if they were Foiles guts i would pay 45 dollars for them if they were worn in good,, just my opinion good luck with calling and hunting this season..

I have had my SMH for about 2 years now. I sent it in last fall to get retuned and new guts in it, I didnt know that old guts were good. So I have been blowing on this set of guts for a little over a year now and I can tell the difference now. It seems to make the call better in every way:loudness, crisper, growlier if u want it, everything. jsut my 2 cents. And Iowa young gun, will you be in Burlington this spring at the state and regional calling contest? I am also planning on becoming a competition caller, maybe duck and goose. We'll see I guess.

I'm hoping to be there. I might be able to not embarrass myself in the duck competition, although I really need a quality competition call. All I have right now that can even get some kind of a hail call is a buck gardner tall timber II, and that just wont cut it. I'm practicing a lot on my goose routine, but I doubt Ill be ready by then.

Yeah my dad just won a Showtime last week at a DU banquet so I will be getting that and then starting to put a routine together. I still need to ad several more notes and work on my transitions. Lets just say I need alot of practice if I am going to look half way descent on the stage. As far as duck goes, I would like to blow in the state open duck calling as well. I am probably more ready for the duck than the goose, I have only been blowing a short reed for about 2 years. We'll just have to see how good I sound on the goose, but am definately planning on blowing in the 2 man goose with Iowamigr8tor and his pink glittery showtime (bassboat red)

i Just bought a Market hunter #646 ( AWESOME CALL ) in Max4 and its brand new so new guts, what i like to do i dont know if anyone else does this, but....i close my hands on the call almost completly and blow Hard into the call for one deep breath, the i do that over and over, ...mainly cause it annoys my girl friend, but if you dont want to rig a contraption to a vaccum or air suplly, or spend hours and hours calling really loud, you can blow hard as you want and it not be real loud, plus i think it wears them in quicker, .......i also too my zink power maximus call to werk with me, and took one of my air blowers and blew air into it for like 1 hour, i totally think it changed the sound and its pretty easy to blow, but i also took that call and tuned it to sound like a snow goose, ( its my play around call,) i only seriously blow my Foiles calls, cause thats whats going to be in the field with me... just my $.02 hope it helps.......
