View Full Version : Showtime & Guts
I started my shortreed experience about 5 years ago and blew nothing but Grounds calls for the longest time. I was quickly introduced to K&H Clucker Guts by Richie McKnight and started to use them in all my calls. Last year I strated contest calling with another brand of call, just because a local call maker was nice enough to help me into a few contests etc... Even then I put my worn in clucker guts in his call and called in the comps that way. I have since parted ways with that call maker and me and my 2 man buddy both decided to blow Foiles Showtime. Well I got mine yesterday and have messed with it for quite a while and I can not get it very close to the way I like them to sound.
My question is do all of the Foiles contest callers use only Foiles guts in their calls? And do they only use Foiles reeds in those calls? I am just curious and would like to know what some of you guys are doing. I do know the sound will get better the more I break the call in.
Thanks for your info

I'm sure that most/all of us use the Foiles green guts...they are the best out there. Reeds are reeds bud...doesnt matter who you buy them from they are all the same material.
Keep messin with it, it will come to you.

The thickness of the reeds are different. But yes the same material. What does Foiles run stock? shaved 14's?
Just want to make sure you know my question is rooted in honest curiosity. I don't claim to know much, just form my own opinions along the way, and I am always learning stuff along the way.
I guess one of the things I am questioning is the shape of the reeds. I've seen Foiles now, and I've seen Area 51's, I am not sure what I have been using with the clucker guts but they seem fatter. I do not shape the reed to change the width I just let the guts break in at that original reed width so as to not have to mess with shaping new reeds. I do however shave to change the thickness.
Thoughts???

I'm not bashing the new Showtime or anything (AWESOME CALL!), but my buddy has one and I dont think it sounds that great. My dad jsut won one at a DU event so I am going to get it and am really excited, but my buddy's call (iowamigr8tor) just doesnt seem to have alot of goose in it. For example, I have a smh and can moan and groan and get low really good on it but not on the showtime. Maybe its the way he has it tuned. I do know that the SHowtime soundfile sounds awesome. I love the first part and thats what I want mine to sound like. Maybe I am just used to my worn in guts in my smh? Whata ya boys think?

I need to mess with the reed on my Showtime. I might switch the guts around and see what it sounds like.

When I got my Showtime I couldn't make it sound goosey either. With a little tuning tip from NJ Honker and a lot of blowing the call it sounds great. On the other hand my buddy just got one shipped from the shop and it sounds amazing. Black pearl and harley silver, the call is really sharp and you can really get low or high and fly on that thing. Don't know if his call sat around the shop for a while and was blown on a lot but mine took some time to get it sounding good. I believe the call needs to be tuned just right. Keep trying and you'll figure it out.
Again just my trial and error learning here. The guts felt loose so I fell back on the scotch tape trick, just one piece on the back of the guts, tightened everything up, and what a difference in sound, crisp and responsive now. This one is different to tune compared to all of my Grounds calls but I think I've almost got it. Minus the break in of course.
Thanks for letting me babble, but I figure that is what this fourm is for.
