Illinois Youth Hunt [Archive]

Just thought id see if any of you other illinois guys took some kids out this mornin for the youth hunt. me and one of my buddies took his little brother and another kid who had never duck hunted before both out this morning and they both limited. at first it was kinda nerve rackin watchin them shoot and miss but they finally got them to start fallin. both of which killed thier first ducks today. i dont know who had more fun the kids or me and my buddy watchin. gonna try and get out again in the morning. i do know one thing watchin them this mornin has got me even more fired up for this coming saturday :D

Myself and a new hunting buddy, took my boy out yesterday as well. He is still a bit small, (7 y.o., 4' tall and around 50 lbs) so his little 20 guage is still a little big for him to be able to get up and shoot quickly, so unfortunately no birds for him. We did however see a lot of ducks and geese, and had several work in on us. All in all he had a great time, and wants to go again, so we had fun.

went out again for the youth hunt and well it didnt go as good as yesterday to say the least.......day started off by tryin to figure out why the boat was takin on so much water. around 630 im sittin in the boat hide of the blind with a bucket pourin out water. got the biggest majority of it out and then it was go time. kids didnt shoot as good today but it happens. one of the kids goes in the back of the blind and goes umm theres water in the boat again. so my buddy limps the boat back to the harbor and i stay with the kids in the blind. buddy gets to the harbor to discover a 3 inch by 1 inch whole in the bottom of the boat. pretty sure one of the boards or brakets on the trailer puncutured the boat yesterday since we didnt feel us hit anything this morning. so after he got the boat drained out he came back out picked us all up and we called it a day early. Lets hope saturday goes ALOT better then today lol.

Last weekend was our Youth hunt (IL north zone). I called in my Godson's 1st Canada with my SMH.

The divers were already down here for the opener (10/21); Redheads and Ringbills.

Well done boys and great pic! My uncle took my cousin out for Iowa youth duck 2 weeks ago and he got a banded pintail!
