I have a doublr reed timber Rattler and to say I love the sound of this call would be an understatement. However when I blow this call it seems to always stick (not Freeze with weather) after a couple bunches of birds. Any tricks to keep this from happening?

Blow it clean backwards after you work some birds. Gets all the extra spit out.
keep a dollar bill in your pocket and pull it between the reeds. money isn't made of paper, it's cotton so it won't tear.

I took some shoe waterproofer like you could get from walmart or a sporting goods store and sparyed that on it and let it dry. It seemed to work. I did it on a cheap poly call (quackhead J frame) that i could never blow because it stuck up so bad with spit. I havent tried it with foiles calls in fear of messing them up. Can anyone see any downfalls or problems with this? If this is a bad idea please post to prevent anything bad from happening to our calls

had the same problem after switching it from single to double reed. had to replace the upper reed after big sean sent me the new reeds,he had put 2 dimples on the top reed so it wouldnt stick and it sounded great but after blowing it alot it would stick, heres how i corrected the problem, i took the old single reed and cut it to the same size as the new upper but put one dimple in the upper reed instead of two and put the new dimple in it with a pen 3/8th of an inch back from the end and now it works great and still sounds the same

I also have a double reed timber rattler and love it. But it is also a sticker, probably because I spit into the call so much. But yeah a dollar bill ran through the reeds wil take the moistur out from in between the reeds and it will be okay for a while. Flicking the reeds will help too....the reeds will sit off the tone board and wont stick as easily.

Hunters Ridge you are the man!!!
I did the trick you said and I no longer get the stick. Thank you for that little tip. I blew the call alot last night and had none of the problems with sticking. You are right it doesn't change the sound but this works.
I see you have a kennel run any trials or tests?

Just to clarify Kennel, you are cutting the old reed you had to the same size as the new top reed you got and useing it to replace the new top reed, you are not cutting both reeds in the call to the same length? The main difference you are doing is just replacing the new top reed with a reed you already had and just putting a bigger dimple in it right? A friend of mine read this post and thought you were saying you have both reeds in your call (double reed) cut to the same length, and you dimpled the top reed. Thanks, just wanted to clarify that your call now has a double reed, the top reed is shorter than the bottom reed, you just put a bigger single dimple in the top reed.

I think if I understand correctly, he means the top reed has a dimple in the normal spot towards the front of the reed, but then it also has another dimple farther back on the reed, more towards the cork. That's what I took from it.
One question, how are you guys putting the dimples in the reeds?

To dimple the reed take a ball point pen, take your reed out and put it on a soft surface and push the ball point pen down into it to form a dimple.

Hoosier you have it right in your post. Not sure how he cut his, but I used my old bottom reed cut it to the new top reed lenght and made bigger dipples in it with a ball point pen. Hasn't stuck once!!!!!!

Just for clarification, when you put the dimple, just one right, you didnt push all the way through. You just made a dimple not a hole. Thanks for the info.
