I'd get the Wingmaster with the Light Contour 28" barrel. The key is the Light Contour barrel. The cheaper 870s have sewer pipes for barrels. Don't even look at the Remington 105 CTi.

The 870 has certainly been a proven workhorse for decades (my turkey gun), but I would still look at some of the other top-shelf pumps: Benelli, Browning and Winchester. The one that shoulders and swings the best, is the one for you.

With an upland gun, since you do a bit of walking, weight is obviously a concern as well.

Good luck.

This might be a bold statement, but an auto-shooter is not any faster at engaging two birds as an experienced pump-shooter. During the time that the auto-shooter is re-acquiring a sight picture for the 2nd bird, the pump-shooter is recycling while re-acquiring a sight picture for the 2nd bird.

Remington 870 Wingmaster 20gauge for Upland Birds for sure. Works the best for me. Or any decent 20gauge at that. You just have to be a little quicker on the draw with the 20, cause if you let em go too far sometimes the 20gauge isnt enough. But Im a good shot, I never miss, lol

I'd have to say the Remington Wingmaster 870.

I will throw this one out there. A Benelli Nova. I have had mine for 5 years now and have not had a single problem with it. It has been abused to say the least and still performs wtihout a hitch.

I will put out a disclaimer on it though. I am a bigger guy and have no problem with the recoil, but some guys say that it kicks like a son of a gun and is a little bit on the heavier side.

i have a browning bps pump and a winchester select o/u and for upland i always grab to o/u. unless of course im in the south dakota corn as its being harvested....then i grab whatever gun i can find that holds the most shells

i would get the 870, i think the nova is to heavy...my opinion, and im not a big browning fan, i like the old 870 better than the new ones but they both go boom so ether will do.

remington 870 is the best pump gun ever made

I would have to say that the nova is a good gun but i have always thought of that being a duck and goose gun, but it would work for pheasants too.
I like the 870's the best though.

Winchester Model 1300 Pump...

I am going to think outside of the box and say I think the new model's of 870's are a big hunk of ****. From their parts down to the ****ty finish they use on them that comes off and rusts after 1 week.

I have a 20 year old 870 and a new 870 and I like them both. I bought the new in 3 1/2 but since have gone back to using 3" shells because I did not really notice much difference, other then the price of the shells.
The finish on the newer 870's are harder to keep from rusting. Spray a little WD-40 on the barrel and wipe it off with a rag after moist or wet days, seems to keep it from collectin rust.

There are 2 types of 870's the cheap walmart model with the sewer pipe barrel and then the WingMaster, that is the model you want 28" would fit the bill.

Now if it was me and just had to have a pump Winchester Model 12 Duck model. Of course I know where a few sit for those days when the old higby sneakbox hits the bay, milk jugs for decoys, hand carver duck calls from the 20's and a model 12 like the boys did back in the day. She's sports the trap stock, 3" vent rib and all beat to hell. If that gun cold talk about it's days 50 years ago AAAHHHH.
