I have a SMH that started to make some strang sounds (buzzy type noise). The call is about 3 years old and I blow it frequently while hunting. I figured the reed was bad so I changed the reed. As it was the reed was in fact split but very minor almost like it was "over broke in". After I changed the reed the call was "tight" like new to blow, but still has a minor goofy buzz. Figured I was blowing different somehow but none of the other calls I blow do this (even another SMH). Should just send it back to the shop but could the Tone Board be worn?

Well first off having a "worn" set of guts is a good thing. You may not have it tuned quite right, keep messing with it, if you cant get it back to he position you like then send it into the shop and they will fix you up.

Oh I hear ya about the guts worn in is definately better but these were starting to crack/tear. I think I will just send it in, I could put new guts in it but if it is not the gut, who knows?

Hey, I know what you meen.. got the same problem, just not all the time.
did the same thing, changed out the reed. Now somtimes i get that unwanted buzz you are talking about.. found the problem though the tone board is shifting ever so slightly to one side of the reed, when the call bangs around on my lanyard. The guts seem tight, but a slight wiggle on the tone board makes it buzzy when you start getting fast with it.
hate to do it but gonna have too break in a new set of guts... Just waiting till the end of january before i do that
