Made it out for a quick duck hunt this last weekend with my son and my hunting buddy. We had a great day with lots of memories and really got into the birds.

We have found that every hunt with a 4 year old is always a different experience. As he dictates the length of hunt we normally don't get to picky on species, or have any goals other then letting him see birds work. We settled for our 5 widgeon, a pintail, and 4 redheads to fill our 2 man limit. While doing this he sit between us in the pit and would try to follow our calling with his own cadence of quacks and hums. If we blew a 5 note hail, we could count on him mimicking us and throwing his own voiced 5 note right behind us note for note.

Because we filled quickly there is no pressure on the hunt or us. We focused on having a good time and let him just be a kid. At one point in time, while we are strolling around talking about "life" and snapping pictures, we hear him blowing my duck calls. I look over my shoulder and we have a flock of 25 - 30 redheads circling the decoys, and I have time to catch this little snapshot of him focused in on them. This beats every tailgate pic that I have taken or been in over the past 20 plus years.
