I am hunting a cut bean field for mallards. I have a dozen greenhead gear full-body mallards, and a lot of greenhead gear floaters. i was wondering to save money and make a bigger spread, if it would work to mix in some floaters with the keels dug in the ground. If so, where should i put them, on the inside or outside of the full-bodies?

Never tried this with ducks, but about a month ago me and two buddies BURNED EM over FA goose floaters in the field. It was a rather small-ish wheat field that was frozen up so we couldnt even dig the keels into the ground, we had to put them in footprint holes that were big enough, from the people that hunted it earlier.

Keep in mind that that was a spread of two and a half dozen floaters, no full bodies. But if you have some full bodies to mix in, I would put them at the front of your killin hole, or wherever you want em to land, as they would look better than some floaters just hangin out.

Good luck,

i have found this to work pretty well. i just take a claw hammer and one good swipe will get you a perfect sized hole for the keels to sit in

All are old leakers we just knock or cut the keels off and use em for field decoys. Thats with mallards have not tried it with goose decoys we usally fill with foam to keep as floaters.

when i first started field hunting all we used was floaters. it worked fine for us. in fact we had so much success in the fields that we basically stop hunting over water. we eventually cut all the keels off the floaters. that was along time ago and have sence replaced all the floaters with fullbodys. now i have 6 dozen floaters with no keels collecting dust in my attic. :?
