If you are able to tune your own call expose a little more reed to where it is a little harder to blow. I'm not an expert by any means but it has worked for me. If you don't have any expirience tuning calls try muffling the call a little bit with your hands or adding a little growl to your calling.

Sounding clean is not really a bad thing, i prefer to be higher pitched most of the time hunting, When you hear a goose in the air most of the time you are not hearing the growl or the deep end of a honk it's usually the high pitch part you here, unless geese are really close i have to assume what they are hearing is the high pitch also, if your in a contest i would suggest putting some deep stuff in, but i have seen a lot of geese die listening to the sound of a high pitched clear call, just my opinion...

I am with Gary on this, I have mine tuned a bit higher than a lot of people, not as high pitched as my SMC but a bit higher, then if I need to get deeper, I do this by either voice inflection or changing the way I am presenting air into the call.
check out this link it might help
