I want to get a sneakboat or layout boat. Anyone that uses 1 that can recommend a certain brand, any info is greatly appreciated. Also to those who might have made their own, how hard is it or would I be better off just buying one? I do my own wood furniture so I have the tools and know how. Just curious as if it's worth it.

I made my own sneakboat out of fiberglass as use it alot. I float creaks and streams when the river is unhuntable due to high water, or when the river is too low to run my blind boat. I have used it as a layout boat and a tender on eastern shore. It is probably one of the most verstile tools that I own, and keeps me hunting when alot of my first opions are not an option.
Now the downside...... Making my own was very self satisfying but the cost of the materials wasnt too bad but the PA boat and fish commission really put me through the ringer. They want there share for my labor I had to get it appraised and supply reciepts for all of my materials then pay a tax on them. I built a transom so that I could run a motor the capacity plate and title of something I made which of course doesnt have a serial number but yet requires a title. That was the added expense and the biggest frustration of the whole expirence.....
After it was all said and done I have the sneakboat I wanted but I could have bought a Momarsh fat boy for about 200.00 less. I am by no means trying to discourage you from building your own just want to let you know what all you are in for.
I currently own two sneak boats made by the Mighty Layout Boys. I use them quite a bit but wish they were bigger. They will float in the skinniest of water, and will handle up to a 5hp. motor Mine are grassed up for marsh hunting but they will handle big water, rough weather fairly well ,if you know what you are doing and don't get careless. Also check out duckboats.net for some other boat companies.Hope this helps .
