How many of you guys switched to the new non-toxic blends such as hevi-shot, federal hi-density, winchester elite, etc...? I switched to hevi-shot and swear i wont go back to steel. Am i one of few that has done this and if you guys have, do you notice a difference in your shot-to-kill ratio. Or have you noticed you did just as well with a good steel round?
i mainly shoot heavy shot #2 for ganders and have had better luck than BB or BBB in kill ratios, normally in steel i use federal ultra shock or winchester supremes, this year im using remington sportsman high speed steel #2s for quackers and been knockin em down big time :D

I switched to hevi shot several years ago and feel I dont waste shells shootin cripples. But I do mainly shoot high percentage shots at decoying birds and steel would probably do the job but I am happy with stoning with the hevi shot I may try the hevi steel this season on divers and see what its is like. Just my 2 cents worth....

I feel that steel gets the job done! I cant justify spending that much money on a shell that is going to be spent in a fraction of a second. I mainly shoot steel and I feel that a well placed shot of steel sill perform the same as the high $$$ loads that some guys shoot. I have a Patternmaster in my SBE 2 and it gets the job done with fewer cripples than factory chokes. You are going to have cripples no matter what shell you shoot, strays or bad shot placement being the problem in those cases. Im not apposed to shooting them if I had the cash, but I feel that my money is better spent in getting birds closer for in your face shot. Spending that money on Decoys, calls, blinds, etc. is in my opinion a better way to allocate my hunting funds, limited budget being a college student and all.

i concure with iowamigr8er. i cant see spending that much more money for shells. im not trying to brag or anything but the group i hunt with (killermiller, iowamigr8er, and myself) are pretty good shooters. if somthing gets within 30-40 yards of us it is pretty rare that it doesnt die. just my 2 cents

always shoot winchester steel always will, it smacks the ducks to my likings so why change, and i couldnt see spending that money when steel shot does the job just fine, if you can judge a good lead on a bird theres no need for that heavy shot, if your leads right that birds going down
