I know this is a Foiles sight and believe me I am a hardcore strait meat man. Just wondering if anyone has blown the tim grounds triple crown. I blew one and it's pretty nice. Also the reed is bent up which was odd. Any comments.

i blew one at a sportsmans warehouse and I really liked the sound - i was curious what the broken-in guts were like so i looked and I saw the bent tip - I thought maybe somebody bent it or something but i guess not

The bent tip gives the reed more pop to the sound. it will also not stick very easy and it makes it easier to do all that fancy spits notes and stuff. that call is a very easy blowing call and sound bad to the bone. Gateway can not keep them in the store. IT sounds a lot like the show time but not as load and does not have that distinct tone that the show time give you.

The new SS series from Buck have the same bent up tip, they are extremely loud. Would my SMH benefit at all from bending up the tip?

Duck Hunter Paul,
Like Steve said the bent reed does keep the call from sticking. Plus this can make it harder to blow. A little bend won't hurt, but I would say if your call is not sticking then don't mess with it. Dale

Well I did it! I got a triple crown and the results are? I really don't know?????
My real critique - 1. One of, if not the best looking calls I have ever
seen.
2. The call sounds good and functions properly.
3. Not at all difficult to blow.
All this being said however, I can tell you it ain't no Strait Meat Honker.
I am not a member of the prostaff or affiliated with Foiles in any way but I can tell you that IMO you should buy yourself a Strait meat honker with your $200.00 and use the extra money to take your wife out to eat and to tell her you got another goose call.

You know there was a time when I didnt believe in a call over $20, but once you have blown a acrylic it is hard to put a poly carb to your lips. I like the crispness of the acrylic it just puts poly carbs under the table. I dont know how much $$$ I spent on cheap calls and it always seemed that they would only last a couple of months and then sound ****ty. It is an investment well worth it, look at it this way you pay $150 once and it is gaurenteed for LIFE, that means the only expense that you should EVER encure would be reeds which are cheap, instead of having to keep buying a new poly carb every year. Not sayin that the Polys are bad but, I went Acrylic and I dont know if I could ever go back.

I was the same way with cheap calls until Jeff hooked me up years ago. I will disagree about the polycarbs if you buy a good one though. I have my original MeatGrinder on my lanyard, has been since I got it. I use that call as much as any other call I have. This isnt a new one either, matter of fact it's one of the first prototype grinders in Advantage Wetlands without a band on it.
