Is it common practice for a guide to carry a gun and hunt while guiding customers?

Yep...but always let the customer shoot first unless it's a pile of birds.

I agree with kelly I guide in southern illinois and it is common for a guide to carry a gun. But you always shoot last.
I never carry a gun when guiding.

For all the trips i have been on and hunted with my guide, i would say about half have carried and half havnt. I have noticed that depending on the time of season or the volume of birds determined whether or not they shoot. I must agree with the other guys that they only shot when we were almost limited and only after we had shot.

I guide here in central IL and I always carry my gun. I only shoot when like kelly said we have big flocks or following up the clients.

A guide should carry to dispacth wounded game. And If your clients can not hit there a_ _ with both hands you dont educate birds.
