Any good ideas on getting permission to hunt private land? I've tried the whole give some meat and it works, just seems like it's getting harder.

Well there's all kinds of stuff you can do in order to secure permission to private land. I have heard of anything from hunters helping the landowners out with various farming duties for a day to giving the landowners cases of Armour Beef Stew (my dad works at the Dial plant in Ft. Madison, Ia where they make all that Armour crap like stew, vienna sausages, and lunch buckets). I have seen him give farmers cases of stew and lunch buckets many times while getting permission for pheasant hunting land. It seems to work pretty well. Heck, one farmer let us hunt a bunch of land and after we hunted we went to thank him and we ended up getting to drive his snowmobile around a little bit. :D

My 12 year old and 2 other young boys were shoveling corn last weekend for 4 hours on one spot we hunt.

Our trick is never ask during the season. Permission is a off season job.

well sometimes when we get permission to a pretty good spot well hunt it and then give them like a fruit basket or somthing like that. they are pretty expensive but i work in the hyvee produce department and we get em pretty cheap. and them well be in good with the landowner and they let us hunt it the next year. just my 2 cents

Wow,

Thanks for the info. I was thinking maybe a bottle of Jack Daniels for the husband and a Target gift card for the wife. I didn't know I would get lunch buckets and fruit. By the way, are lunch buckets compatible to eukanuba?

We always offer to come lend a hand if the farmer needs help in during the year. A few saturdays if the off season can make a big difference in
getting (and keeping) hunting permission. Word spreads too. One farmer
tells another farmer and so on.

Common sense helps too. Don't drive where your not supposed to and
simple stuff like that. Basically treat the proprty as if it were your own.
