I've been hunting the north/central IL zones hard, for me. Today marks the my 17th day of hunting since opening day. The last week has been absolutely horrible. As many of you up here already know, we had a front come in from the north two days ago. Yesterday and today still yielded a big fat zero. I'm not ready to quit the sport or anything crazy like that, but my dog, Scout, is forgetting why we're out there.
Yesterday I got real desparate and decided to shoot a coot, just to give Scout a chance to retrieve some feathers. From the ramp, he gave this look like, "You don't actually expect me to retrieve that carp-with-wings do you?" It was hilarious.
Anyway, I guess we need several days of this weather in order to push some new birds in from the north. I'll be hittin' it again tomorrow. It's all good.
know what ya mean bud no birds here in southwest lower mi. either but the locals have a collage degree now! ,they see deeks or hear a call its game over ! you can see the afterburners kick in and bye bye, but the birds are starten to stage up way north need some bad weather to get em comin our way

same here, the past week and a half we have seen no birds, weve only been shooting 2 a day on average, that front that came through friday night got me all pumped, thinking some new birds, nope, we seen a couple new birds but nothing like normal, yesterday we did shoot to awesome greenheads that were new birds, their colors were awesome, and they were huge, but other than that the season is starting pretty bad, but like ya said i think we need a few days in a row of some real nasty weather

not that i wanna brag but we limited out on geese with 7 guys in southeast wisconsin this morning.. 14 total geese and 3 mallards.. we have a hot field that just got cut and the geese in the area we are hunting haven't seen hunters all season.. but i do agree our other spots have started to dry up and the birds we do see know exactly whats going on. hopefully it will pick up soon.. good hunting to everyone!!!!!

Keep your spirits up. It'll get better soon. We had 2 days of great pintail and teal shooting last week here in IA due to the snow that moved through. I mean 2 days and that was it..... they were gone.
