Killer Miller

Well boys, the Iowa Killin' Crew got into 'em this evening (Sunday). Kingkilla and Iowamigr8tor had this field scouted from yesterday, decoys out and layouts covered by the time I got to the field. I loaded my gun and shortly there after, here came the ducks. First flock was about 100 birds and they ended up dumping right in first pass, dropped 300+ yards!! They hung over my end and then turned into the hole where the spinners were. We took 4 outta there. Shot into 2 other groups of ducks and a few small groups of honkers to kill our limit of geese. Ended up with 5 greenheads and 2 hens. Saw a snow and 2 blues! Both hens shot going away, thought they were drakes. :D

We did learn a good lesson this weekend. Kingkilla and I started out the weekend just looking for some geese. I had talked to my cousin (the landowner) and he said that the geese had been working this field. I asked him about the ducks and he didn't think they were using it. I had never shot ducks out of this field before, really they have never worked this field when they are in season, either see um right after it closes or with the snow geese in the spring. Well I have a short box ford and we filled it to the brim! the duck decoys were in question. I wanted to take them soo bad, just in case. Well my gut feeling worked out and we needed um. We had my truck packed with: 2 1/2 dzn+ geese, 3 finishers, 1 dz FB Ducks, Cloths, Blind bags, guns, Spinning wing deeks, waders, and more.
Great hunting experience, the fact that the ducks came from 300+yds to in your face was out of control! I will remember this hunt forever.
Also I believe that a enclosed trailer is in the budget for next year!

hey boys just letting you know how we did=terrible we got no new ducks what so ever. local ducks i would say around 3800 to 4000, we only shot two ducks this weekend. ducks didnt get up until around 2:00 in the afternoon. pretty slow.

Yeah the ducks wouldnt work in the morning, The geese would but we had a couple of issues with guns on Saturday morning's hunt. My gun didnt go off because I didnt have the bolt locked all the way so all it did was CLICK. Kingkilla "short schucked" his pump after his first shot. The second bunch that worked us I pulled feathers off of a bird but it didnt fall, I was trying a new shot size, Kentfasteel 1's. I liked way they worked in the evening. We let the field rest on Sunday morning so that when KillerMiller arrived we would have a successful hunt in the field. Most of the ducks came out around 3:30-4:00 and when they came they came in clouds.

Hang in there drakekiller, all it takes is a cold snap and a north wind and they'lle be here. I heard from several people on other various forums (Flocknockers and Gooserefuge) that there are a ton of honkers and ducks staging up in Minnesota. So it won't be long now. Hang in there.
