I wish I could tell you what brand mine is. I bought it at a floor model, and didn't have anything to go with it...box, instructions.....nothing. I'm not a small guy either, and there is plenty of room and is pretty comfy. When I get it back from Philly I'll look and see if it says what kind it is.

Summit and API are great stands. I would feel safe in either. I gues it depends on what you want to spend?!?!?!?

Good luck on your search brother!

well man i am not really a big guy but i have a summit goliath that i got last year and i love it and i am not very big on climbers, also my buddy has a couger claw and it is really lite and comfy for those all day sits it looks some what like a summit but if you get a summit get the saddle bags that go on the sides they really are very nice you can put half the house in them and when you take it off the tree you don't have to take you're junk out if it just strap it together and throw it on your back hope i helped in you selection

both the summit and the api are pretty close in price its just a matter of finding one. i have called bass pro in st charles, gateway outfitters in st peters and 3 farm and homes an none of them had the summit. so im gonna call them today about the api's. might be time to dust off the ol trusty bucket.

Best way to go on a climber in my opinion is the Lone Wolf Sit 'N' Climb. A little pricey, but your back will thank you for purchasing such a lightweight stand. In addition it is very quiet while climbing. Easiest climber I've ever used.

Summit Viper or Goliath. These stands are sweet. All Day comfort and very light on the back. They climb quietly and bite into the tree really well.
Just my .02.

Yeah Jeff id be on the phone with Summit with the quickness, nothing like a big thud in the woods to scare all the game, i have a Summit, and i hunted it a lot in the early season, never had any issues with it at all, then again im 6'1" 160 so i scurry up trees no problem, i usually try to find a tree thats 8-12inches, i found that the teeth dig in a little better on the smaller trees, and they Backpacker series from Summit is nice, ive never hunted an API, but we have 4 Summits that we use all different and all are ok, i have a Bushwacker series and i found the seat gets a little uncomfortable so the only thing i can tell you is get one with a backrest on it, saves a lot of movin around trying to get comfortable i changed mine over to the backrest seat, and now the only problem i have is trying to stay awake in the thing, my advice on a fall system is get the loggy bayou harness, they are small and padded, so they arent bulky like the vest systems, and you can get accesories like a fanny or back pack that snaps into the harness, i love mine and i wont climb a tree without it, but hey thats just my opinion and opinions are like assholes everyone has one, lol, id say just sit in one on display if you can, or find someone that has one and try it out before you buy it i thought mine was alright till i spent 5 hours in it, had the bar diggin into my back the whole time, but like i said i switched the seat no more problems, i plan on getting one of the backpackers next year, cause they fold op flat and they weigh like 16- 17 lbs oh yeah and get the footrest it prolly the best addition you could make to the stand, just my $.02

i've got an ol man and ended up buying a summit viper too. used it twice and sold it and went back to my ol man stand. the ol man folds flat and is easy to get on a tree and easy to climb with. the one i,ve got is the grand ol man and is tested for something like 400 lbs.can't go wrong w/ them.

check out the new stands from Gorilla. I work at the Harrisburg Pa.
Bass Pro and they are very nice. they must have bought patents or something from ol' man because they look and function identically.
Even the seat is the same

Smoke

The only problem I have ever had using my Summit was trying to climb a shagbark tree. Those things are slick. We are fortunate to have a lot of Oaks where we hunt and climbing those things is a cinch. The stand almost bites in to much and makes it difficult to move the foot part of the stand. Just take your time and find the right tree, also remember that the trees diameter at the top is less than the bottom, so make sure you start out with your stand angled up a liitle so when you get up a little ways the stand will be level and not trying to dump you to the ground. Hope this helps

Per Jeff:

Option 1: Broadwood SS gave $269 @ Cabela's, will sell for $ 230

Option 2: Find him an Ole' Man w/footrest (new) and he'll trade

Smoke, sorry I didn't get back to your PM been pretty busy last few days. My recommendation is allways stay clear of the climbers, and go with a lock on with climbing sticks or a ladder. In most of the timbers I hunte or hunted, the climbers had very few available trees to use. where as with the other two ptions you have a lot more choices. Plus I know too many people with similar stories to Jeff where they slip while climbing. I traded munts a Gorilla lock on and climbing sticks earlier this year, ask him how he likes it. Good luck and staysafe with whatever stand you get.
