do you want a combination upland/waterfowl dog or just a waterfowl dog?

overall i'd get a lab and i dont give a rip what color it is. i'm picking a dog based on personality and talent, not to match the drapes in the house.

You can't go wrong with a black lab. Fantastic personalities, fun when it is time to play, but all business when it is hunitng time.

Day in day out for all around hunting labs are hard to beat. Color is a personal prefferance and has nothin to do with ability.

My preference is the Lab! I run all yellows, but color makes no difference. Labs are the do it all breed!!!!!!!

If you've got small kids around, Cheseapeake's aren't the best dog to have. They recognize one person as their master and everyone else is either equal or subordinate to them, which can mean big trouble for little Timmy and Susie.

I have a 6 month old Chesapeake named Deke. They have an amazing desire to retrieve. But like WhackEmAndStackEm17 said they generally listen best to the one that feeds them.

I've been a lab man my whole life. I've had every color there is. I personaly like the fox red color, but I have a black, and yellow in the kennel right now, both females. I also have a black male that will be picked up on Sunday.

A pink or purple lab works the best and the males don't lift their leg when they pee.

For waterfowling you can't beat a LAB. I prefer a yellow, just my opinion.

Chocolate is my choice, but whichever you pick, have confidence in the dog, and you won't fail.

I would co with a Lab, any color. I've been lucky to have had two great dogs, my first a Black Lab, and when he passed away I got a Yellow lab, who I still have and hunt with (11yrs old), both had great desire/skill and where really loyal,in the field and around the house. The black lab was outstanding with kids. His patience with my little cousins was unreal, he would watch over them everytime they came over. Can't go wrong with a Lab.

I have a yellow male he is a big baby with everyone my two year old sister rides him around...lol.... over the spring i came across a german short haired pup and I honestly have more fun with him in the field.... He has the speed to hit the cripples (ran one down from 300 yards away and also broke early on a bird caught it before he could even flap) and the nose to find anything hidden in the CRP.... He is a little more tempermental but is great with the family....Labs are the best all around dog and are just great companions but the short hair is a hunting machine swims and since he is still young tries his best to bring them honkers back

Im prefer labs, have a chocolate right now she's high strung but crazy when it comes to retrieving and working in the field. Over all it doesn’t matter about the color just the personality and drive of the dog
